I bought and owned 3 diff Lotus Turbo's. Bought them all slightly used and never went to a dealer ever. Best of luck in the search. I wont comment on how much BS that guy was attempting to blow up your tailpipes.

This. When we're talking 6 figures, what's the big deal about flying out to pick it up or having it delivered?

Welcome to the 370Z and GT-R club :)

Tape up that front bumper for the drive home!

100k a year isn't THAT much for a car this expensive + insurance + mortgage + living expenses.

Don't buy it.

A lot of people who have a GT-R don't even make 100k and they are just fine.

Wow at how that dealer treated you, I don't know what I would do when he told me to get out.

+1 on the comment for taking no prisoners when dealing with the devil dealership. If you don't have to buy - milk the dealer till they are dry and when it seems like you got the best deal in the world, they will still make a decent profit on you.

Just as an example on how much a dealer makes or made on a lexus is-f - straight out of dealer sons mouth (germain lexus, FL) - the least they make is 15% of what you pay out the door and the most is up to 25%.

check out one of the top news stories; when Tesla motors attempted to bypass having dealerships and sell directly to customer (alas still having a maintenance facility) - so much lobbying, bitching, suing, and crying happened that they are now fighting off so much bs.

Just google; tesla direct sale model and then you will realize how much dealers make per car.

I am on my way back from Savannah, GA. I am currently in Longview, TX getting my 1000 miles inspection:

Windows error on screen under mcdonald's sign... made me LOL a bit so I took a pic:

And a pic just as I was hitting the first major break-in milestone alowing for >3500 RPM:

And the histogram of gas mileage going down horribly as following the break-ing procedure of high-sih RPM and only 1-4 gears:

Hopefully you had the dealer clearbra that thing before you picked it up if you weren't going to tape up the front end.

So far so good. There are a few minor complaints though (non mechanical/performance ones....):

1) Probably from years of driving a 280z and my 370z I really like how low you are sitting in those cars, amazing what a couple of inches do. It feels like when I am pressing on the gas/break/etc my leg is almost strait which I liked. I don't like that I am sitting higher in the seat on the GT-R. The feeling kind of reminds me of driving my dad's 350z. So I wish the seat was lowered a bit.

2) I now realize I really love the pedals on the 370z especially the gas pedal that is mounted from the bottom instead of a hanging pedal (like the break/clutch is or gas in other cars). This made the 370z extremely comfortable (for me) to drive for long periods of times. I could easily maintain freeway speed with my foot never getting tired because I could essentially rest it on the pedal. Can't do that in the GT-R and my foot gets tired sometimes. Funny enough my clutch foot never gets tired even in traffic, I guess it must be something about holding the angle or something.

3) I have had some annoyances with the gas gauge in the 370Z in the past with the DTE being wildly inaccurate or it not showing as being filled up all the way. Well the GT-R is much worse. I have had times where it gets to the E and DTE is listed as 0 miles and it only takes 12 gallons to fill it and other times its been 15.5 gallons. I have never even gotten close filling the tank (which is .5 bigger then the 370z @ 19.5 gallons). Seems like the car thinks its empty when it still has 25% of its tank left almost. Seems a bit extreme.

4) The navigation system blows (IMHO). I really like all the technical data you get from the computer so I just ordered a garmin the other day as I got really tired of the navigation functions/suckyness. I like to always have the technical data displayed anyway so I think this will work out best.

5) Doors are hard to shut. Feels like I am slamming them. I have failed to completely shut the door like 15 times now.

6) Back seats are extremely small. Like really tiny... My dad can barely fit with my sister in the back seat and there is not a whole lot of leg room for either of them. When I test-drove one I actually thought that with how far my dad would need the seat back the back seats were going to be useless but I was pleasantly surprised that I can actually fit 3 people in my GT-R. There is no way it will ever be four as there is about .5 inches of leg room in the seat behind me as I drive with the seat pretty far back. I can't even sit in the back seats at all. My sister is pretty short and with the seat up enough for her to be comfortable there is enough leg room but the problem is even if i slide my but down a bit to lower my height I am just to tall. My head hits the windows and I have to tilt my head to the side. I think you have to be under 5'9 or something to even be able to sit in those back seats at all. I didn't buy it for the backseats (it was just a plus) so minor...

7) No memory seats. Seats are slow. Honestly if the seats could move a bit faster it wouldn't be as much of an issue but it makes for getting when I have passengers in the back a bit of a PITA. Honestly I think non-power seats would be better as they can be much quicker to adjust.

8) My girlfriend thinks it looks like a Mustang (LOL).

Some things I like:

1) Sunglasses holder. My dad's 350Z had this and I use sun-glasses a lot (polarized lenses) while I drive. I definitely appreciate having a spot to put my sun glasses.

2) Nice interior.

3) Computer that gives you stats for everything, transmission oil pressure/temp engine oil pressure/temp, coolant temp, g meter, boost meter, etc... the list goes on. I really like having all that data accessible to me.

4) Bluetooth, nice to be able to take calls all though I wish the quality was a bit better.

As for mechanical performance....

The car definitely rapes my Z in acceleration. My Z feels slow now. It also definitely handles noticeably better. The car is a blast to drive. I haven't felt like its a video game or a big disconnect between road and driver like some have mentioned. I have barely driven my Z since I got the GT-R but the GT-R still has that new factor to it as well. All my complaints are pretty minor things that don't really matter in the end.

Driving in R-R-R mode which makes shifting in manual mode completely under your control (you will hit the rev-limiter if you don't shift) is a pretty good replacement for driving a manual transmission. I am a prety hard-core pro manual guy so I do miss the clutch but atleast I can still drive it pretty much in the same way I would the Z without the use of the clutch.

The thing engine breaks really well which is one of the things I liked about the 370z so that again helps me with being able to drive it like I drove my Z.

The suspension is certainly stiffer than a 370z's and I have heard stories of people complaining how harsh it is (and some complaints about the 370z as well) but I never though it was a problem on the 370z and while there are some moments I notice it more than in the 370z I don't feel its a problem at all and works fine as a daily driver. I daily drive in R mode for the suspension so its a bit tighter than the normal or CONF modes too.

Btw.. Lamborghini's used to be my all time dream car since I was a kid. That being said my opinion has changed quite a bit that. From what I have researched/know lamborghini's are a lot less reliable and way less value compared to a GT-R. Also they are way more unsafe cars. Just as a general rule I think I would be much more likely to die in a Lamborghini than a GT-R and even more so when they randomly catch on fire. I would not buy a lamborghini now...

I'd take an LP670 or an Aventador any day! But a GTR is much more realistically closer financially. GTR'S are driving computers I'd say they are safer.

Given the 2 and finances not a restraint....Lambo all day long. y? because its a lambo. gtr is the mustang of super cars as far as price for performance. Nothing against mustangs tho as im about to get a 5.0.

Zensation 05-27-2014 06:38 PM

...also nothing against the gtr as its a beast. but it is what it is.
