However, there's not much of a need for their versatility where I am, so piss off! It's two-doors and RWD all day! |

oh, j00 guys.
Well, I've got family and friends, I have dogs, and I have a need to tote things around, and I live in an area where it snows. Plus I wanted it to be fast. That's why I have my STI. When summer approaches, I have my Z06 for everything else And there's nothing really better or worse about this new STi, that I can tell, except that I think it's worse that it doesn't come with a hatch option (for the time being). If it ever does come as a hatch, maybe I'll trade up in a few years. Many of the complaints in here are the same complaints I've always heard about STi's... "too many doors", "big wing", "bland interior", "seating position isn't as sporty"... The only new complaint I've heard is that it looks more like an Evo, which I agree is the case, although not necessarily a bad thing. Last edited by shadoquad; 03-06-2014 at 07:18 AM. |

You can tell who's never gotten to flog an STi here by some of these comments. They're so much fun to throw around. The only knock on the current ones (besides the wing) is that the stock tune is way too lean during spoolup and they like to crack ringlands. Swap the wing with a WRX owner for cash, use the cash to buy an accessport. Both problems solved.

I've been doing quite a lot of research on the new STi, and what they have done to the chassis is amazingly impressive. For any of you who are in the market for a new 30-40K car, there is a very lengthy video of the STi press release presentation where they go over all the new changes.
I thought about listing all the changes they made to the chassis but that would take awhile, lets just say its very extensive. Engine mods are only limited to a new tune which improves throttle response (a lot) and turbo lag (a bit). Really reworked interior with even the smallest details are worked out and optimized (seating position, luggage compartments, door openings, ect... Base model comes with IMO much nicer wheels - in black, and can be bought without negotiating for $1000 below invoice ($31,000 without delivery). However, I'm gonna hold out for a few years until they update the engine with direct injection, which will more than likely be coupled with twinscrool turbo and equal length headers. Cross shopping with a M235i (which is farrrrrr more expensive, about 50K with very limited options) but I want something with more differences than my 911. I don't think there's many other alternatives for what the STi is trying to do at its price point. Golf R is too lame, Evo is too old (and extremely unreliable from my experience, oh and you thought the subie interior is bad??)

I got to see a brand new black WRX on the road the other day. Unfortunately it was going in the opposite direction and couldn't take a pic in time, but I thought it looked great. LED's drew my attention to the car. I've always loved the Subaru's even thought I've never owned one.
I drove a 2011 STI and liked it but the previous driver had beaten up the inside of the fenders and such with the stupidass "hellaflush" crap and this made me strengthen my opinion about only buying a new car, so I didn't pull the trigger. The STI was noticeably slower than the Z from a 40 roll that I was doing on the test drive. I've been waiting to see what Subaru had come out with and I'm on the fence. It seems every refresh the wing gets larger. Nonetheless I hate the blue and gold color scheme because it is too boy racer. I will heavily consider a black or grey STI in the near future and depending on how I feel, I might remove the wing. Also, I'd definitely want an extra 100hp and I guess we'll see how people on the subaru forums achieve it without blowing it up.

Also, the Sti is geared more towards people with the inner thrill seeker in mind, yet they swapped out the race style seats for something that looks more comfortable rather than something that is going to hold you in the seats while taking a corner hard.

They've always had crap seats. Only the Japanese market got the good ones. The previous ones didn't hold you in place for ****, they just looked good. The holy grail for USDM Subie seats were the 02-03 seats. They actually had good bolstering, the cloth just looked like crap. I sold my STi seats for a set very shortly into my ownership of it.

Oh and they raised the wing to increase rearward visibility. That's probably the most polarizing feature, but no one can argue that its functional. The WRX has positive lift at 100mph while the STi passes the threshold and has negative lift at 100mph. I wonder how the hatch will look. My guess is that they will introduce it along with a new engine in 3 years.

That's a good thing. The one on my 04 was a precisely the right height to cover up a light bar on a car following you, so you had no idea if the car behind you was a cop.

Subaru keeps claiming the hatch sold poorly, so they won't bring it back. I call BS, but I won't be surprised if we don't see a hatch version of this STi ever. Especially because the "hatch" version of the base Impreza looks more like a Forester than an Impreza...
