Default 3000 GT VR-4 Need some emissions help please

We bought my boy a 1992 Mits 3000 GT VR-4 last year and we are having a hard time getting it to pass emissions. Long story short I don't want to dump anymore money into his car than I have already and am trying to narrow down what to replace before we sell it.

Not sure if the pic narrows it down but, trying to decide if I need o2 sensors or a new cat. Or best bet any tricks to get the emissions down for the test that anyone know of?

Thanks for the feedback.

On the older hondas that would not pass a good tune up always got them to pass, new cap rotor wires and plugs. I would also seafoam it, maybe twice, one can in the tank the other through the intake, it will help.

Not sure if that's anecdotal or not because OP has a Mitsubishi.

OP, try Seafoam in the intake and gas, also, try a bottle of that Guartanteed to Pass crap they sell at VatoZone for $20. My friend's POS Miata went from failing really badly to passing within 1 percent of the failure mark.
Just make sure you get the car running and hot as all hell before you take it in

The other thing... You're not in CA, so honestly, I'd buy a cheap 49 state approved cat and slap it on. Parts are probably $80, labor probably another $20-30 to weld it in, and you can sell the old cat for some money on craigslist

Good suggestions. He did the autozone pass and had maginal improvment but, still a failure. I'll try the seafoam and see where we are at. I know jack shiet about how far/ bad his original test was off othe than the difference in the numbers. I guess the issue is I'm not sure what to expect with changing things out.

Just did the seafoam.

Cossie I think you're correct on the mixture. Did a little resaerch but, didn't really see how I can adjust the mixture. One thought is to clean the MAF sensor and possibly remove the aircilter for the inspection only.

kid can't afford the car without a job and I'm trying to get all the emissions done as chePly as possible.

thanks for the input. Keeping coming if you have any other suggestions.
