500hp inline 6(likely turbo).....RWD.....Light.....I like these. Please NO electric helper motor(s).
If they tone down the gawdy looks on this, I may be in. It's a bit much, it is in red, but the z06 c7 is going to give it hell. Keep it around 80-100k, lose the vents on vents on vents and daddy likes. R36 has some work cut out for it. Not too bad. Glad to see toyota fighting back, the camry/prius identity is pretty crappy imo. That body tho....eww, I can see it getting toned and real sexy. I really do not want to drive a formula car all day..hah. 2016 is a great time to be in the market for a supercar! |

400K... Toyota badge or not, it's better than the LFA, so it will cost more. Unless they totally dumb down the production model.

Slow and/or reliable carts for the peasants; underperforming but exquisite super cars for the super-wealthy. I will hate Toyota forever if they do that, having barely gotten over my massive disappointment on the FR-S... Toyota is ready for a 40K-ish car that will match or spank the Z, and give the higher end pony cars a run for the money (substituting raw power for high reliability and good looks, as usual...) Based on the underperfoming, staggeringly overpriced LF-A, there is no way they will be able to catch the Corvette or GT-R at a reasonable pricepoint, and they don't need two cars that only the Koch brothers et al and Jay Leno can afford. If they really want to make a proper Supra, in keeping with the previous model, adjusted for 2014 values, it should come in under 50K loaded, if memory serves... We'll see...

Oh, in support of my "Maybe Toyota will actually compete with the Z etc." argument, latest rumor is 260 kilowatts = ~350 hp

This car will be no where near the LFA. It will most likely be in the $80-$100k range according to most articles |

Whoops... my estimates were off and a bit optimistic. So after killing some time on ye olde internete:
The original 1998 MSRP's allegedly ranged from $31,078.00 (base) to $38,778.00 (turbo auto). 1998 Toyota Supra - AutoTrader.com That's a range of roughly $45,445.00 to $56,705.00 in 2014 dollars, give or take some pocket change. Inflation Calculator: Bureau of Labor Statistics Too much for the base model -- they couldn't sell it then at that price, so it will have to come down a bit. I could see them getting a N/A 350 bhp version out around $40K and a super-wazoo boosted model nudging over $55K -- but that one will have to really fly. On that note, the 1996 ZX was supposedly ranging from $37,439.00 to $45,579.00 (much more than the Supra!) so it is indeed possible for Toyota to follow the same path Nissan did with the Z after its hiatus and keep the bang for the buck factor high. http://www.autotrader.com/1996-Nissa...?modelId=11012
