This thing is def quirky, but it looks really good at the same time. Pretty interesting.

zmanelite 11-19-2013 11:33 PM

Wow that thing if freakin bad ***

Zbrah 11-19-2013 11:38 PM

That thing got a Hemi?:wtf2:

I don't like the new proportions compared to the classic.

Z_ealot 11-20-2013 01:37 AM

looks pretty bad *** to me...i would definitely be insterested in something like the iDX nismo provided it has the right underpinnings

/Angelo350Z/ 11-20-2013 02:20 AM

I really like this IDx. A light, 150 hp, RWD coupe that looks a lot more masculine than the FR-S? I'm down.

Isamu 11-20-2013 02:31 AM

it's still a concept.. so who knows what the production version would look like.. but I am digging it... I would really like to see this go into production...

Tempestz 11-20-2013 02:48 AM

I will have one. The nismo version is rumored to have a 1.6l turbo engine

theDreamer 11-20-2013 07:02 AM

A little less extreme for the production but overall the car is looking very solid. And I agree, if the Nismo comes with a 1.6 turbo setup then it will dominated the market, they just need to get it into production ASAP!

:iagree:

If this is the FRS competitor they are talking about then they need to bring this to market as close to this as possible. Get the right engines and trans and keep the weight down, this could be a hit.

shadoquad 11-21-2013 06:44 AM

Not sure how the styling is going to play with the FRS/BRZ crowd. Maybe huge with 80's retro fans, maybe not so well with the average consumer? I don't know.

Neat concept, though. RWD, peppy I-4... Would like to see one in production.

ZeeingAround 11-21-2013 07:53 AM

Love it. So many ways to customize.

zmanelite 11-21-2013 08:04 AM

I will most probably get one when and if it come out
Bad *** retro/future styling

The Nissan IDx Nismo Concept Is The Rebirth Of The God Damn Datsun 510

Jordo! 11-21-2013 09:12 AM

I actualy kinda like it.

I'd take that over a tC, for example.

Jordo! 11-21-2013 09:15 AM

Any official confirmation yet on whether a next-gen Z will be debuted Friday?

kenchan 11-21-2013 09:17 AM

i thought camaro and mustang and charger (maybe not chrysler) were all done with the retro-thing? :ugh:

i can't say for sure, but 11/22 is supposedly the date. i saw that on j-magazines as well several weeks back talking about the z35 release.

Cmike2780 11-21-2013 09:18 AM

How awesome would this be as a DD? Something about it makes me want to do silly powerslides. A badass rally version would be killer.

m3chhawk 11-21-2013 09:19 AM

Two new platforms, new Nismo cars, and a new Z. Nissan is on a roll.

I found this Nissan To Preview New Z Sports Car With Tokyo Motor Show Concept: Report

But for all the trotting out of the iffy idx concept, I've not even seen a cloaked silhouette of the next gen Z yet... tomorrow, huh? :icon14:

Apoc370z 11-21-2013 11:38 AM

Am i missing anything here? Personally i think they made a big mistake..

The targeted "audience" for the BRZ/FRS is the younger generation, like people in their early twenties.. most people that age care less about performance or power to weight ratio as long as the car looks good and sporty.

This however probably wont grab their interest as much as the FRS/BRZ.. at least not majority of them. Not saying IDX's design is bad but would you rather drive a FRS to school or an IDX?

the concept and design is pretty unique, i have to give them that

I disagree. People who aren't into cars, want simplicity and could care less about "sporty". Those people couldn't tell the difference between a Civic and a Sentra. The young crowd who want something unique, sporty, rwd and affordable will like the Nismo version. Just look at the Scion tuning crowd and this is leaps and bounds better than an Xb or Tc. I'd pick the IDX over the FRS/BRZ and would gladly drive it to school. When I see a kid in an FRS/BRZ drive one to school, I can't help but think poser/douche/wannabe racercar, ....not car enthusiast. I see a kid rolling in one of these, I think it's someone who's into cars. The target audience for the FR-S/BR-Z is ages 25-midlife crisis.

ka24king 11-21-2013 01:15 PM

Wow I dident expect people to have as a positive reaction to this car as I initially did! I really like it!

just put some red e-tape on the frs and it will be a nismo. :ugh:

for me i was hoping it would look more like a sports car (silvia) vs a sedan-ish car (510).

it's all good for those that like it though. i just have to look for something different.

I was reading a blog about the show, and they debuted the IDx and it was mostly a positive reaction... your older crowd loves it, and your car culture guys do.. the ones who seemed to have a negative reaction were the young pups(silvia fanatics) who don't know better

I don't like the new proportions compared to the classic.

Because you're not comparing it to the correct classic:

yah the classic looks fantastic.

m3chhawk 11-21-2013 02:39 PM

I hope they put the round headlights from the Freeflow in the Nismo.

Drex 11-21-2013 08:31 PM

looks good. i wonder if it would look better in all black or white (or silver, etc.). the concept seems too busy imo

zguynate 11-21-2013 08:48 PM

I think the quirky design works well. Look at how well the Juke is doing. That is doing much better than I ever would have imagined. Turns out some people really like different.

Based on the accompanying marketing vid -- if they can pull off the smartphone-esque customization options, it will be full of win to the next generation of car buyers.

On the other hand, Scion sort of tried this gimmick, and in the end, you are still stuck with picking from what's on the lot...

If they can make this work and keep the costs down, good for them.

On the other hand, they will still be limited in terms of what they can offer power and handling wise because of safety/emissions issues, so I wonder just how much "i" the idx will really provide...

kenchan 11-22-2013 02:30 PM

it's going to be tricky to sell this fad to a generation that most dont have much money or interest in cars.

i think for that generation, something that is actually useful (like a hatchback) might make more sense?

Nissan Confirms The Rear-Drive IDx Concept Will Go To Production

Quote:

Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer told media there was no confirmation of which of the two concept models would hit production.

"Don't say that we won't do both, but we will definitely do one of them," he said.

He went on to hint that the IDx might have a manual transmission, or at the very least, paddle shifters.
