They're also green-lighting the Blade-glider.

Nissan will have not two, not three, but four sports cars in its line-up within five years, says company vice president Andy Palmer.

Palmer confirmed that the next-generation GT-R and 370Z replacement will be joined - providing the economic climate remains favourable - by production versions of the IDX and BladeGlider concepts.

"'Phenomenal' would be the word," said Palmer when asked about the response to the two design studies. "The reaction is strong enough that we put both cars into our five-year plans. That doesn't necessarily mean it'll take five years to get there..."

How will the four fit together? "IDX represents one end of the spectrum, Bladeglider another end of the spectrum," says Palmer. "And then in the middle you've got your traditional lower end sports car [the 370Z replacement], and the GTR as your higher-end sports car."

So what do we know about the Nissan quartet? Palmer revealed fresh details on all four. Here, from most expensive to cheapest, is what we know...

This car makes our Z's sound like shyt. This 4 banger sounds brolic and sounds like it will eat a BRZ for breakfast. All it needs is a smoother slightly less chunky looking front grille. Everything else on the exterior
don't change. Check it out

Looks like we might not get IDX after all. Hopefully this means they are focused on the Z.

maybe it might turn into a Z35?

I think this stems from the fact that when the IDX was introduced at the California cars & coffee, the general consensus was, NO CVT SPORT COUPE. 7at was the preferred transmission, which means they would have to reengineer the idx coupe for a traditional slush box. Boosting R&D cost and the Z35 needs to come out. It's already a year behind schedule.

The issue Nissan sees with it is low sales volume on the platform as it currently will not be shared out. So estimated sales of 10-20k per year is not a large enough volume to produce it. The Z makes it by because of the G platform (and I believe another car uses it).

I would imagine the R&D to get a different tranny is already done, they probably tested the 7AT, 6MT, CVT to see how they fit, cost, perform and I bet we will see 6MT and CVT for a low cost car.

another problem is not enough youngsters know how to drive MT.

its them that are forcing the car manufacturers to build AT sports/sporty cars to a degree...:ugh:

who in the right car guy mind would buy a AT brz/frs anyway? :shakes head: gtfo..

The Z, G, M, EX, and FX use the FM platform. And possibly the Titan? Not sure on that one. 20k units doesn't sound too bad imo.
