I think after the second one burning up.....that short sale might have been a good idea. Still depending on what they find, the sock may rebound. But, they are not going out of business and the fires have not killed anyone, yet. This one is tough to call. Put or get?

Not to mention there may be some influence from dealer lobbyists considering how public the dealers vs. Tesla spat became once Musk wanted to sell cars directly to consumers.

Edit- Looks like Elon asked for the investigation. Very smart if he knows that it's an isolated occurrance.

i thought the owner was saying there will be no recall! <= like that.

apparently george cloney hated their roadster for breaking down so often.

There's a free over-the-air update to raise the car's freeway cruising ride height, and he expanded the warranty to cover fire even if it's your fault. Sounds like a guy who's confident in his product.

The roadster was a love/hate thing with many owners, it was Tesla's first go at a car.
The Model S is much better and very well improved. The push for the investigation is clearly coming from closed doors by "key" people who wish to see Tesla falter.

The issue is Musk has tons of money, is extremely smart, and is the next era business man. In 20 years this will be viewed as a minor road bump for the company and will be laughed off.

Its true that road debris punctured the floor and caused the fires. They need to determine how big and object can do that and at what speed. There is no NHSTA test for that, unlike gas cars where they have to take a certain impact and not explode. Plus fire departments have to learn that applying water to a lithium ion battery fire.....is not a good idea. I guess halon would work, but that might suffocate a driver.

It really is unfortunate that this keeps happening, but as DCNISMO said, they really have no way of testing for these type of incidences beforehand. All they can do is just fix the problem after it happens once they determine what exactly did happen.

I would take a short position for now, but I think in the long run Tesla will be one of those companies that bounces back very strongly. Electric cars will only become more popular as we go on and Tesla is in the best position to capitalize on that. I see them doing something like Apple did with iTunes and the iPod, but with charging stations and electric cars. You use iTunes whether or not you have an iPod or a Zune, and I see people using Tesla charging stations whether they drive a Tesla or an electric Cadillac.

the director of the NHTSA refuted that comment from elon musk and said there was no such request from musk until after the NHTSA had already filed the paperwork to start the investigation.

Regardless, it is still a good PR move. Most people will just hear that Elon Musk invited an investigation and think he stands behind his product and never be any wiser to the fact that an investigation had already been underway.

You think? There is also big oil involved too. I have 9000 miles in my two EV cars combined, not a single problem and it doesn't need any major service other than computer checkups and tire rotation planned within the next three years.

I am praying it will drop below $125, then I can buy 1000 shares and watch it grow back up to $200 once the Model X comes out. I got one on deposit now.

Having an standardized set of connectors and battery trays that any manufacturer can use, would be great. Going to a station and getting fresh battery or charge regardless of the type of electric car you have...would be they way to really set them off. That would require manufacturers to get together and hash it out. Who knows, maybe they are doing that now.

There's that as well. I have a hard time believing any government scrutiny is above board.

I did think the stock was overbought based on revenue, so personally I'd just hold on to see what comes of the inquiry.
