Considering you're six times more likely to have a car fire in a regular, petrol powered car, I find all this crap to be media bs playing on the public fear of something they know very little about. Remember the 458 Italia's.

You'd sooner be struck by lightning or die in a plane crash. In all incidents, it also shows that the passenger compartment isolated the fire pretty well. Yeah there's a learning curve as to how emergency workers respond, but that's like saying we shouldn't build tall buildings because fire fighters refuse to train for such situations.

Also, didn't the cars alert the drivers before it was life-threatening and tell them to pull over out of traffic safely? Major points there.

Having an standardized set of connectors and battery trays that any manufacturer can use, would be great. Going to a station and getting fresh battery or charge regardless of the type of electric car you have...would be they way to really set them off. That would require manufacturers to get together and hash it out. Who knows, maybe they are doing that now.

Tesla has pretty much said they will build their own, but they will put adapters to make others fit their car. Yet other cars can't use theirs.

I'm sure Elon would change his tune if other manufacturers came to him wanting to license his battery pack design for their cars. I'm willing to bet he'd be happy to become the industry standard. :rofl2:

Mercedes and toyota did license their product, quick charging and the use of their plugs wasn't included in the deal. Toyota paid in the five figures k per car for just the license!!!
