I wonder if Nissan will still aim to market against the Cayman on the next generation of Zs. |

If the Z goes FI... I expect the next gen Z to be about 350hp and 200lbbs lighter than the Porsche gts. But maybe the Nismo Z might match the gts in power? Nissan will always look at Porsche for the Z comp while also trying to stay ahead of price competitive Japanese brand coupes like the Frs and other possible upcoming coupes like the rx7 and supra coupe.

For the extra $30k it costs over the Z, you could add a heck of a lot more than 45hp. $70k is too much for that car imo. I think it's a great car, but that price tag kills it for me.

The GTS models are typically pretty low production and hold their value well. Most well kept low miles ones will become collectable in the future. I used to work at a Porsche dealership and the Cayenne GTS was by far the best flavor of that pepper. All the Turbo goodies without the way-too-much-for-road-use powertrain the turbo had. Also, you could get a very nice V8 with a 6 spd manual in an SUV. Good luck finding that anywhere else...

If you want it to compete with it expect it to cost like it as well. If we do get at that point, your might as well go with a GTR.

The porsche Cayman competes more than most of the cars people try to t throw up against the Z.

A used one, yes. A new one ($100k+), no. But you are talking about two completely different buyers of car.

Changing the HP of the car doesn't change the positioning in the market . The Z has been, and will continue to be, a more affordable sport car. You can get 80% (subjective but ball park) of the experience for a lower price then its peers.
Comparing a normal Z to say a Cayman S is a valid comparison even if list prices are a bit off the charts for zee German (and that's just the market: they can get it so they have very high profit margins). CPO is where it gets interesting...I know The GTS will be a great track car, or a car inflate the confidence of men with wee willie syndrome, but other then that, I see it as a very strange change of pace for Porsche. The Cayman has been a neutered platform so as not to infringe on the holy 911: why change that now? - b |

Next Z is going to be FI inline 4 at roughly 2800lbs and estimated 320-340hp. Depending on how the car itself is packaged, it could still compete performance-wise. Also doesn't rule out multiple powertrain options, but it will be interesting to see how it fleshes out.
