Got a ride in a LFA today
My buddy and I got invited to the Lexus event where they let you drive all of their new cars, along with some of the competition. It was nice. They fed us, and had a really cool simulator set up to drive the IS250 on a track. I set the fastest lap time there, so I won a ride along in the promotional LFA with their pro driver.
The cars we were allowed to drive were the IS250/350, 335i, MB c350, an A4, a GS350, LS460 and that crappy little hybrid. They had several AutoX courses set up to flog the cars around, and out of everything there, the IS350, GS350 and 335i were the only ones I would consider if I were going to buy an automatic sedan. It's very telling there were no Infiniti vehicles there. I guess Lexus wanted to skew the odds in their favor, not help Infiniti sell a bunch of G37s. Three of us got rides in the LFA- me for the fastest sim time, and the fastest male and female times on the AutoX course. There's been a lot of bs spewed on forums about the cost vs. straight line speed of the LFA. It's not a cheap car, and the power can be matched by other vehicles costing 1/3rd of the sticker price. This is true. What the **** ever. Yes, a GTR may outrun the car on a drag strip. Hooray. This thing is still SERIOUSLY fast, and the interior is unreal. It's all alcantara and CF everywhere. The seats are the best I've ever sat in. It's what a Lexus supercar should be. Fast and comfortable. The hot lap was spent hanging on for dear life because the driver had the car sideways nearly the entire time. And the sound. Oh my God, the sound. This is what God's weekend car sounds like. You may have heard one on a video, or in person outside the car. You know nothing until you've been inside when someone's beating on one. It's even better inside the car. This is the first time I've liked the sound tube piping engine noise into the cabin. If I owned this car the stereo would never be turned on. Would I buy one? If I hit the powerball, this would be the first thing I bought. And that's the kind of money you need, because the rear tires cost $1000. Each. |
Lol. Awesome!

NIce and congratulations! No matter what car you look at someone will tell you there is another car that is faster and cheaper. Thats where it comes down to personal taste and what a person likes. I don't ever care what others say, I buy what "I" like and want, not what some Tom, Richard Carnium or Harry tell me I should own. LFA's are amazing cars and I would love a chance to take one out on the track.

Hell ya, You can take that off your bucket list.....

Yeah, there's a lot of other cars with better specs for $400k. I was just blown away at the build quality of the LFA. A lot of the other high dollar cars I've seen have had fit and finish issues you wouldn't expect for the price. The usual comparison is "Dude, a GTR with X dollars in it will smoke it". Yes, it will. But the GTRs I've sat in just didn't feel special. They're nice, but it still feels like a car. This was a jet fighter cockpit wrapped in suede and CF. You could drive it cross country and not ever feel beat up or tired of it. And it's a Lexus, so I'll bet it would be the most reliable supercar out there.

And I got super jealous of another guy on the forums today.
That sounds absolutely amazing. Closest I've been to an LFA was over 5 feet away at a Lexus dealership they had it in for a local car show. Absolutely beautiful machine. I used to be one of those guys who didn't see the appeal of the LFA due to its price, but seeing it in the flesh and how well made the car looks, especially inside, well that made me rethink. Pretty funny that Lexus didn't have any G37's there. I think that's the car that's cross-shopped the most with the IS350. My parents did at least (both are rwd 300+ hp Japanese sports sedans). Lets just say we have 2 VQ37HR's in the garage. |

Wow -- congrats on the win and the ride
I have to say, I think there is a weird fundamental truth regarding all of Toyota's sports cars over the years, regardless of the class it's in or the cost: It will be incredibly well engineered and aesthetically pretty, but not nearly as fast as it could be.
