Default Might get made fun of for these....

So just out of curiousity and shear boredom today, I was looking at a few different cars for under 40K. I came across a couple that I thought I might get some opinions about. NO, I'm not planning on purchasing either one, but just wanted to gauge opinions.

Pontiac G8 GXP - 415hp / 405ftlbs / RWD / 0-60 in 4.7 and about 13 flat for the 1/4. The V8 in this thing gets pretty decent gas mileage for a V8 but as a 4-door sedan it's also well over 4000lbs. Oh and around $38K

Saturn Sky Redline - 260hp / turbo / RWD and nothing else really noteworthy and it's around $32K

What do you guys think. Would people still get a better bang for their buck spending a little extra for say... a Porsche, or a Beamer or even the 370?

The G8 is built on the same platform as the Camaro (technically the other way around), but for a four door sedan it is tough to beat and looks very nice. The Sky or Pontiac GXP are both nice cars but you get so much more with a Z, yes the Z starts in the 30k range and goes to 40k but the all around package is a better delivery.

Porsche or BMW, tough call on what you want. They are going to be more luxury featured cars and make a smoother ride.

i saw in news paper in california, a 30k G8 2008 was being sold for 20k new, why? they wanted to get it off the lot.

Now with pontiac going down i bet you can get a bad @ss deal.

I woudltn waste my time on a Saturn Sky, i admit it has turbo wich makes it modible but if your gonna spend that money for 2 seats i think your better off in a Z.

Not being bias becuase i own a z, but i that was a car i cross shopped and ruled it out when i purchased the Z.

The only beef I have with those cars is the quality of materials used inside. The numbers are nice but they just don't feel very good IMO. I think the G8 feels kind of cheap.

The Saturn Sky RL is nice but not as nice as the Z. The Sky interior is better quality than the Pontiac version plus I think it has better exterior lines (imho) (but again not as nice as the Z). I owned a Sky RL and modified it with bolt ons and a tune and gained 48hp to the wheels (before and after dynos).

My Sky was faster in a straight line than my 370Z is (crazy but true). After mods occur to my 370Z I know it will be faster than my Sky was.

The major difference to me is the general overall (better) engineering quality of the 370Z. What I appreciate most though, is the stock handling capability of the Z. My Sky could not even dream of cornering like my stock Z can.

my 2 cents being a previous Sky RL owner.

Ok, let's throw a wrench in the mix...

Once again I sit here bored at work and at home usually, lol but I checked out a Honda S2000 CR that actaully doesn't look too bad with it's new hard top. Here's some specs >> 4cyl / 16V DOHC VTEC / 237hp / 162ftlbs / 2800lbs. Now a little low numbers for my liking, but Vortech already makes supercharger kits for around 5k and pushes the S2k up to around 340 - 360 w/ different mods. It's around the same price as any of the ones we're talking about here so far.
