Most rugged and reliable?
Where I live we are experiencing a lot of flooding and mud. I was wondering opinions on which slightly used vehicle will provide my family and I the best capability to ford water the best with the least drama and which can handle all terrains best. Any input is appreciated so I can make an educated purchase.
ps ive been leaning towards a wrangler |

At least give us an idea of the vehicles you looked at and researched first.

FJ is kinda crappy, overpriced and doesn't hold it's value.
Land Cruiser if you got the cash, Sequoia if you want a Land Cruiser but don't mind shíttier US build quality. Highlander is your next best step, but buy the V6 3.5L

There are so many vehicles out there from $30,000 to $80,000 for the purpose of off-road survival vehicle. Plus so many types. You can set up a pick for one, a jeep, Certain SUV's. This thread is waaay too vague.

Looked at the FJ, wrangler, f150, etc, got about 25k to spend...leaning towards a wrangler Its not vague its pretty straightforward, I need to get through high water and mud, I have 25k.

After watching top gear try and kill that toyota pickup they do make me want to give toyota a shot but the FJ just was missing 'something'. I dont know what it was but it definitely felt less substantial than the wrangler. The sequoia and land rover are HUGE maybe too big and expensive for that matter

My , go with that Wrangler (I'm a gut instinct guy, and despise regret).
Sorry I can't help more because all I have is the Z. But my father got a 2011 F-150 and he does contracting for companies in southeast Virgnina. There's a lot of swamp and mud areas when it floods he pushes through, and he has no complaints. The problem with that of course is that it's JUST my dad travelling by himself. For the purposes of your family I can only recommend the option with the best safety, spaciousness and lowest price of upkeep. That F-150 is family friendly, but requires more maintenence than I am comfortable with. |

Anyway, this thread im about to post had a very interesting argument on this topic that may help lead you in the right direction or confuse you? lol. But i learned a lot since this thread. Good-Bye Jeep Liberty! WELCOME BACK JEEP CHEROKEE! I lean toward Jeep products myself. Any vehicle you buy in order to make it tough on terrain will need modification. There is nothing you can buy off the lot that's ready for anything. Hope that link helps?

It's like, WOW the Nissan Maxima holds its value well! (No goddammit, when you can buy a $44k Maxima for $33k, the numbers are a bit skewed...)
