ATS vs 335 vs C350

2012 BMW 335i Sport vs. 2013 Cadillac ATS 3.6 vs. 2013 Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport - Comparison - Motor Trend

I had to post this article. I found the review extraordinarily similar to my opinions when comparing the ATS vs the 335. (I never had a chance to drive the new C350, so I don't know)

IMHO, In terms of handling. The cadillac picks up where BMW left off in 2001. Though the BMW is the fastest between the two, the BMW335i has been overrated and overpriced for a decade now and the driving experience has dumbed down over the years... I made reference to this car in alpha Snacks thread about the Q50. That the Q has to beat this car, not the BMW.
After driving the ATS, 2.0 turbo, which is not the flagship motor. I was completely and totally impressed. The 321hp v6 is the more powerful flagship motor. an upcoming 3.6litre TT is coming for the ATS-V.

This article also makes reference that the ATS, feels like driving a 370z. I dare be bold to agree with this statement. The ATS is what the G37s should have been in terms of feel. IMHO, GM never got a sedan so right... And it can only get better as the years move on.

Here's the video version as well. ENJOY!

Historically I never been into these types of sedans. Test driven a few. Thought. Wow, Kewl and forgot about them the next day. I really had the same mindset as you. I would have rather bought an accord or altima over this type of sedan. But when i felt caddy's performance coming out of this sedan, I was amazed. There were reactions from the 2.0 motor that are missing in the Z, even though it's slower. It cornered so well, I forgot about this being a 4 door sedan.

A preconceived notion vs an actual driving experience made me see the car differently. I see the ATS as the truest sports sedan out there in terms of driving experience out to $50k budget limit. Styling isn't my favorite either. But it makes me crave for a next gen camaro badly.

I don't like sedans and converts, but i'm writing about it... so it's gotta be a good sedan to waste my time writing this.

EDIT: The ATS is made from Hydroform steel and weighs 3400lbs with four doors. Imagine this chassis evolving to partial aluminum. They can reduce weight probably an extra 100lbs. With removing all the luxuries for a simpler interior in a sporty camaro. The Alpha may be as low as 3200-3300lbs as a camaro with a 300+hp turbo and a 450hp v8.

I think Kia is so cutting edge, they outdid, nissan, honda, hyundai, Mazda in design, and they are 3 years old with there model vs brand new entries from the rest.

BMW needs a new redesign on their front grills and bumper. The longer they have this going on none of these cars stand out from the rest.

I really want to try out the ATS, ill never forget 2006 during the real estate boom out here my roommate bought a CTS-V and let me drive it when he was drunk one night. That thing put your head back in your seat it was so much fun.

You're not seriously making that level of low-grade stereotype are you?:ugh2:
While the Koreans still need to work on some performance issues concerning many models. I feel they've made bolder steps than the japanese in regular styled sub-premium vehicles. While my preference still lies with japanese for reliability and quality. The Koreans show promise in there perseverance to strive for more. I have respect and like the Kia design. There is a reality of you get what you pay for. While i wouldnt call korean cars cheap. They still don't live up to current japanese standards... for now. But im watching closely. Cuz I see japan making some shyt moves lately as well.

If that makes me a loser? So be it.:tiphat:

But uou guys know this is a ATS thread right????

That TT motor has not been confirmed for the ATSV. That motor will go into the new CTS V sport. A new V for the ATS or CTS has not been confirmed or announced by GM yet regardless of what Jalopnik or other sites say. Trust me, I'm on the V boards and this has been discussed thoroughly. I think they are deciding on how to slot a real V into the GM line up. Right now the new C7 Vette does not match the current V in terms of power. So until a new ZR1 that's C7 based I don't think we get to see a new V. The current V will be sold as a 2014 model with orders placed this month.

Just going to point out that we don't even trust each other on our own boards, so for me, you being in the V boards is not justifiable enough for me to take your word on it. But I do understand your argument. It's very likely that the ATS will get the TT V6 motor. If it's targeting BMW and the C63 for performance, fuel economy, and technology, it's going to happen. The new CTS model may have to wait a few years for a proper V drivetrain (FI'd V8) to use.

DCNISMO 06-11-2013 11:07 PM

True, I'm just saying that GM has not announced a ATSV yet but it is true that you can order the current CTSV as a 2014 model. That just started this week as people have placed orders. The pecking order for these models in relation to the new C7 has mot been made public. It's doubtful that a new V wagon comes out, people think that ship has sailed and they will become collectors cars, even more if it's a manual 6 speed. My local dealer wants me to trade my 09 V for an new ATS. I told her she was nutty for that suggestion.
Too bad I did not have space to keep the Nismo, they would be a good pair to own as compliments to each other.

I appreciate the update bruh... I'm gonna try to follow that 3.6TT news better.

EDIT: This is what we do know... GM is test running a ATS-V variant vehicle against BMW's M3 sedan. Obviously they are on the attack to make a better performance sedan than the M3. Now I don't know what's under the hood, but i doubt it's a v8. It would be too front heavy and cause plowing in the corners.
BMW usually runs a high tech small v8 (4.4ltr) or there signature v6 turbo. I don't see GM spending money on a v8 small and powerful enough to compete against the M3. My educated guess would be the rumor is probably closer to fact than rumor. Either way, The ATS-V being tested to outperform the M3 is exactly what GM/Cadillac needs to revitalize the brand

I'm wishing Cadillac the best of luck in this difficult task they took on. While BMW's have been generally overrated. The M-series remains a force to be reckoned with. This is going to be an insane battle.

I don't think the new M3 keeps its V8. So a high output 3.65TT could be put in the ATS to make an ATS-V and compete with ti. The new CTS-V will still compete with the M5, so it will have a V8....question is will it have a blower and be based on the new engine in the C7 vette? If so then the new ZR-1 will have to get a blower and be about 100 HP more than then new V, which is what we have today. My V has 556 HP and the ZR-1 has 650 or so I think.

The real bastard in this affair is the ZL-1, what happens to that? The Z-28 may push it out.

Its a great time for cars now, I hope younger people appreciate the choices we have now....after getting my engineering degree in 86.....we had crappy cars...in fact the GT Stang back then had all of 185 HP from a V8. The 70's and 80's into the early 90's were bad car years....very bad. Stickers, fake scoops, weak engines.....yadayada...

I believe the ZR-1 is 638hp, which is about 82hp more than the CTS-V. As far as the ZL-1 and Z28. I don't see there being too much of an issue.

First reason, The supercharged ZL-! is still a street car with track capability.
The Z/28 is a NA track car that is street legal. They appeal to 2 different levels of enthusiast and both are made in limited numbers.
Second thing is, there's 2 model years left to the Camaro 5. When the Alpha platform comes in for the Camaro. The ZL-1 and Z/28 may disappear till 2/3 in again or, The ZL1 will die while the Z/28 lives on in limited numbers. Chevy always plays musical monikers when it comes to Camaro models. Not too big o deal. That said. I just want to see a much improved Camaro throughout the range.

Fixed. And maybe make it possible to see out of it? Those were the two major gripes I had about the car.

You must have not driven it or any of these!

Had to buy the wife a new car. She had a 10 accord and we drove the 13 accord sport. Guess what? It's an accord. Felt the same, drove the same, just a upper level cheap Japanese car. nothing special, horrible power, no real refinement or luxury but that's ok at the time because she had nothing to really compare it to.

Then we drove the Buick Verono. Wife hated it. I had an 12 regal GS 2.0 turbo, huge brembos (same size as 370z), adjustable suspension, nice interior but really lacking in the power department with the tanny computer killing power whenever it wanted. A lot to be desired and not a GM fan at all. The ats can't be far behind.

Then the Kia optima. Nicer inside than the two but again no power and horrible motor sounds! Really cheap!

Then a BMW 325i. Wife's obsessed with BMW. Always has been but never drove one. The inside she liked, power was ok but everything that guy in the vid said was true!! Drive it and you're done with it.

Then the c300. She loves everything! Everyday she tells me she loves it. The ride, the power, the MOTOR SOUNDS WOW! (Then I put an exhaust mod on it!!!!), the interior, I could go on and on. Then her mom got rid of a 07 c280 and got an 11 e350. Then she had a leak fixed last week under warranty and they gave her a 13 glk350. Needless to say she loves them all. Merc 4 life!

Never driven a C300. But sat in one @ the Dallas Auto Show. I can attest too much hype goes to the BMW 3 series interior by comparison. Mercedes is true interior luxury. If luxury floats your boat? I don't see anything better than Mercedes in the price point.

Well its got power too. In my shoes we own two cars. I wouldn't want my z and what he called a z like handling car that's stiff. It's nice to have one of each. If you were only buying one though, the merc would still have to be it from what I know about GM, trannys, etc. plus he did say stuff everything into the amazing merc package. All around its the best DD since no one will buy a ats to carve canyon roads 24/7.

The only way i need a car to ride like a Benz is on road trips longer than 6 hours. Otherwise im good. Even then. I think the 6 hour thing is based on the passengers with me, not me, myself.
I truly love my cars to perform. Even a luxury sedan. I would be that guy in the market for an ATS even though i own a Z. I can haul people without losing the excitement of driving. :driving:
