What's with all the plastic **** around the bottom?

smurfblu13 07-26-2009 02:08 PM

I don't know if it's just me, but I think the rear end looks like a sedan. To me they did an awesome job of making the front look aggressive and then all the aggressive juices ran out when it came time for the rear. Still overall a nice new design.

Well, I have to give it to Ford, they managed to get in-dash navi in their pony car and GM hasn't figured that one out yet. LOL

Although, I still don't get why they put 5-speeds in these cars... Lame, IMO.

I like the looks of the '10 more than the '09, but that's just my preference. The 5.0L is supposed to be offered in N/A and 2 different blown versions. 400HP, 500HP, and (supposedly) 700HP.

From the pics, it looks like they finally decided to use the V8 design they came up with MANY years ago, didn't use, and let GM use which turned into the LS1. About time. I guess that's how they're making so much power N/A with the 5.0.

Sorry to say this but most true blue Mustangers (such as myslef) think the 2010 Mustang is the beginning of the end for its styling design. Most of the stangers agree that when seen "live" the backend of the car is a total f*ck-up in design as its bulging rounded deck lid lines makes the car look like a sedan. And the angling up of the lights is a complete screwup as no Mustang in its history ever had such an angling up which looks totally dumb.

The car is a pig in weight as well as it damn near weights 500 more pounds than the 370Z. And for a 4.6L engine the car barely makes 315 BHP.

Also the stock suspension is not on the same level as the Z when it comes slalom types of events as the Mustang is predominently set up for straight line. I am not saying that it cannot hold teh rode...I am just saying that to do course-running with guaranteed absolute precision and ease of hnadling the suspension needs to be upgraded to exactly what the Shelby-GT (not the Shelby GT500) has.

When I describe to my fellow club stangers why I left the pack I say it this way:

Mustang = RAW............Z = Refined.

My vote:

Mustang = :thumbsdown:..............Z = :tup:

And this is coming from me, a guy who has had nothing but Mustangs for the 38 years I have been driving.

Yeah, that was something else too - .9L more engine, 2 more cylinders, and it can't produce more HP? I was also happy with the front, sides...but from the back quarter and around the rear - it's just wrong.

Didn't Steve Saleen bail out and start another company?

Well I must say that it was looking decent until I saw the inside. This is a completely subjective opinion - YUCK. That interior is absolutely gross. Something about it just screams retro and clunky to me.

But if y'all like it more power to you.

Edit: The speedo and tach look ultra retro to me. The buttons on the steering wheel look really out of sorts too. There is a fine line between giving a nod to the old school and completely living in the past. This feels like it crossed the line for me.

OK - just about all I know of Mustangs is the beautiful sound of the V8 I first heard and fell in love with in the 1960's.

I also saw a beautifully supercharged one at Le Mans last year, imported to the UK by a Mustang freak - and I must say that in the 'flesh' it looked and (of course) sounded really nice.

But now, my opinion goes downhill - Those lovely high quality pics at the start of this thread reveal a design that has run out of ideas. The 2010 Mustang should not look ANYTHING like that - in 40 years it hasn't evolved, it's got lardy, lumpy and sorry but the word is ........boring. The words 'Complacent. Safe and Dull' come to mind.
This is a real shame, because 40 years ago the brand Mustang really meant something and said something about Americans and American Muscle cars. The Mustang WAS Steve McQueen. Sadly, now all it does is highlight american motor manufacturers' complacency. These days, the Mustang isn't a throbbing Steve McQueen, it's an ageing Schwarzenegger with too much make-up and hair dye.

Chickens are coming home to roost - the americans are now playing catch-up with other car manufacturers from around the world - and they're not doing it very well.

The only thing that should be constant in a Mustang is the sound - the rest should have kept up with the times. Sadly it's still in the 80's.

I don't agree with SOME of what you say. For 2010 everything you are saying about it "not up with the times" is correct. I do think however the 2005 through 2009 S197 style was the absolute best capture of Mustang's design heritage and the best design move Ford ever made. It saved their company and it also cashed in on a retro-design that actually worked for real in the past 5 model years.

You are coorect however in that it is time to move on....The question really stills stands however in what should be Ford's next design move as they really need to kick it up a notch for the 2015 styling.

I think if Ford would have released for 2010 production the exact design copy of the Mustang Giugiaro Concept Car then they wouldn't have painted themselves into the corner they are now going to be in. Instead they only did a far removed partial take on the Giugiaro for the 2010 design.

Attached are some Mustang Giugiaro Concept Car pics that I think should have been what the 2010 Mustang that went to production looked exactly like. This would have at least put the Mustang into the right direction for a new 2015 design. I think Ford let this one get away. If they try to make this car teh 2015 release it will be too late because its design will be "old" for that date of release. 2015 needs to be something beyond the Giugiaro concept shown below.

I agree with you totally - the car I inspected at Le Mans was one of those.

Don't be too hard on me tho - I was fullo' beer when I typed all that :tiphat:

But I'll add one thing - fuel consumption :0
