Entertaining, pseudo-negative FR-S Review

Hey everyone. I was cruising YouTube last night and found this review. I'm not an FR-S/BRZ hater, but like a lot of us I'm tired of hearing nothing but FANTASTIC reviews for this car. I like the car, actually, but I'd like to hear the other side as well.

This is not a professional car review. It's just some dude, but it was pretty entertaining. He's an owner, and he lists some of his pluses and minuses for the car. Apparently, and unfortunately for this guy, there's a several-month back-order on any parts needed for the car. Ouch.

Caution: He uses some colorful language. Be careful if you're at work (like me). This is just up for general consumption/entertainment. Take it or leave it. :tiphat:

Lol. It was an honest review. About as honest as you can get. I agree that 200hp is only good for so long. After a while 200hp becomes

I had more fun driving a Civic SI than the FRS i tried. FRS Interior was terrible also in my opinion

So you find massive understeer fun in a civic? But yet, you complain about (what we all know is nearly non-existent) understeer in the Z???

I'd still rather drive an FR-S.

Damn all you do is lie.:gtfo2:

Chris Harris review enough said. Maybe like 1 British guy would take the Zed over frs so you really wanna go there?

Nobody want a 35-40k car and then have to spend thousands more on proper tires and suspension.

Tazicon 05-23-2013 06:43 PM

At 8:55 when he hits a corner...................hummm

Anyway that was a good vid. I hadn't heard about the issue with parts but that would be a pisser thats for sure. I want to like the FRS/BZR but its not there yet. Maybe an STi verision will come out and make it all better!

at this point he's just entertaining to watch go down in flames when i do see his occasional posts from other people quoting him. to me there is 2 types of people that lease, type 1 are the ones who are always trying to keep up with the joneses and are just concerned with looking good in their car, type 2 is the person who leases because they are always wanting to try something new and not be tied down to one car. guess which one jungleZ belongs to lol....as for the FR-S as has been said before, it's a respectable car, but only as an entry level sports car for the teenagers wanting something sporty as their first car.

Zaggeron 05-23-2013 09:23 PM

Decent review. I've got a BRZ as my DD and while the FRS interior is fairly spartan, the BRZ in Limited trim isn't too bad. Neither the FRS or the BRZ in any trim level have a decent stereo and the stereo and Nav controls in my BRZ are nasty.

I've had the BRZ for a year and luckily no issues with the ECU caused whine the reviewed was afflicted with.

Um, the Z does understeer a bit at the limit. It's slightly noseheavy. But it can also oversteer with throttle.

Yeah it's hardly non-existent. If it is, you're not driving fast enough. :stirthepot:

Also, FRS: I kinda like it... but still do not want.

DEpointfive0 05-23-2013 09:44 PM

Back to what the OP posted... That whole video was so painful and slow to watch... After it I stabbed needles in my dìck to spruce up my day

cossie1600 05-23-2013 11:39 PM

So he is complaining about the car being unreliable. Hmmm...didn't a third of the people on this forum had their car towed for the stupid steering lock?

Or the <1% that had to get towed due to fuel starvation?

I don't hate honda's. I have no interest in purchasing one. Big difference.

But morons may not understand that.

My point is jungle is not driving fast. I know it.... That's why i used the WORD NEARLY. You only feel understeer 85%in to the cars capability. But most stock FR's will do that AT THE LIMIT. Understeer is much worse with VDC on as well. We had this convo in another thread aslready. :ugh2:

As far as the FR-S goes??? I don't think any of us Don't like it. I think it's more of a value issue and can we live with such little power. But the car is definitely needed in the sports car world, in general.

cossie1600 05-24-2013 08:03 AM

I don't like it, would rather have a Mini Cooper S

Like the exterior.... Hate the interior. Can't do it to myself. :shakes head:

m4a1mustang 05-24-2013 08:19 AM

I'd rather have a Fiat 500 Abarth. So chic.

UNKNOWN_370 05-24-2013 11:42 AM

I like small cars but... I think the Z, Fr-S and cars of that size suit me better. Though I wouldn't buy an FR-S... Well used purchase for a daily? yes. Not as a sports car.

I just wish it wasnt 27K with a little options on it

Jordo! 05-24-2013 06:31 PM

Damn. The golden car goes down for a month or more due to lack of basic parts -- ouch.

Well, here's to hoping for a refined version of the car down he road...

Man...Any post that even whispers the letters "BRZ" or "FRS" turns into a domestic dispute on this forum. I guess we need to put a forum-wide moratorium on any discussion of the Toyobaru. Ha.

Yeah, I know this isn't THE MOST entertaining car review on the interwebs. I never said it was Top Gear material. I just thought this guy's perspective was interesting, and it cracked me up when he said, "It's a $25k car, who gives a sh*t?" This was what came up when I literally typed in "FR-S Sucks" on YouTube. I couldn't even find a douchey hater video on the subject.

I actually wouldn't mind stopping by a Scion or Subaru dealership and taking one out just to see what it's like, but I'm too chicken sh*t to go to a dealership knowing I'm wasting the sales person's time, especially since they probably get a lot of punks who do the same thing with no money, let alone any intention of buying one.

As for all the Honda discussion, I have no problem with Hondas. (Save for my mother in-law's Civic, which just had its transmission die at 130k. So much for being bullet proof.) I did help a friend of mine slap a K&N intake on his '08 Civic, and I must say that Honda's induction sound is so sweet. It's not even an Si, and it sounds really nice. Would I rather have a Civic than a BRZ? Nahp.

Hey man... just get the test drive. It's not wasting a salesguys time because, what if? After the drive, you really like the FR-S? Or what if it makes you pay attention to the brand as a whole? What if the salesguy winds up being someone you want to do biz with in the future?

If a salesguy thinks giving you an obligation free test drive is wasting time? He is a HORRIBLE salesperson.

Go drive it.

This is what i been trying to say about the FR-S vs the Z. Put 7" tires all around on the Z and it would be just as fun. Most sport coupes today have staggered 8" and 9" wide wheels or 9" and 10" in the case of the Z. put straight 7" wide wheels and you replicate that kind of fun.

That's why i call corporate hype on the FR-S. But the perfect engine placement and low cog on the FR-S was well done. I accredit that more to the access to subaru's already well engineered motor than a genius design coming from Toyota.

They brought back an old formula from japan that most car companies have neglected. But they didn't do anything groundbreaking or genius with the FR-S.
