Modded 370 compared to e39 m5?
Has anyone driven an 02-03 M5? I know these cars are not really in the same category as the Z but I'm talking purely in terms of acceleration. You can see my mods and power in my sig.
I was thinking a Z with similar mods as mine would be pretty close to the M5 since it has a weight advantage and would be pretty close to 394 hp (not whp of course) But im really just speculating. Anyone know from experience? I'm asking because I've always liked them and they are pretty cheap now |
Well... I believe they had a 0-60 of 4.6 seconds, and 1/4 mile in the mid 13's, so you'll be about as quick.
Just gotta understand that those M5's SUCK reliability wise (and if I can say their reliability sucks compared to the 370Z with all the problems I have... LOL... It tells you how big a POS the BMW is) |
The M5 is ridiculous. Purely in terms of acceleration, it will roast the Z, especially from 3rd gear on.
Edit** Even the older ones. My buddy used to have one, and I have driven it. Handles like a boat compared to the Z, but it roars off the line. I cannot remember his mods, but I know he did most of the common items. |

Oh, also, they're totally different beasts, all BMWs (not the -28s) really do feel like the ultimate driving machine... For a short period of time... But you'll still have the super stuff steering and suspension wise, they're ok, just compared to a modern car you think, hmmmmm... Did they not know about sway bars

Maybe I was just younger and more impressionable :icon17: I remember getting thrown back in my seat noticeably more than the Z now. I'll have some questions for him the next time I see him  I'm with you on the reliability. He was always working on that bi+ch... |

Well, 400HP and 370ft lbs of torque feels like more because it is more no matter the weight of the car, it's just that it doesn't actually get you anywhere once you're actually going, lol |
the M5 will deff be quicker then the "race car wannabe nismo" for sure
also remember that german HP is equal to 1.231234 Jap hp srs |
Did you guys see the new M5 has 500 ft-lb torque @ 1500 RPM :driving:
|
M5 would be faster in a straight line, although I think the Z would outgrip it in corners and braking. Higher numbers in handling doesn't mean it feels better while handling though.

The auto has been known to hit 4.4 with very mild mods. |
Decade old BMW's are money traps. If you can find a good example that hasn't been trashed, it might be worth it if you can get it dirt cheap. Chances are though, no one buys an M5 and drives it like a grandma and you're gonna end up spending a ton to get it marginally reliable. I think that's fair to say about most high performance sports car/sedan.

I still love the E39 M5 but I would not keep one. |

You're the same guy that traded a $110,000 Ferrari 360 modena for a $42,000 Nismo which you paid $46,000 and still upped an extra $3,000 out of pocket????????:wtf2: You're in the hole about $68,000 and then you wanna come on here and kick stats and use offensive terminology like "jap"?:gtfo2: :bs: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ena-nismo.html |
I've owned two E34s (530 and 535 European models) and driven newer model 3 and 5 Series, including an E92 M3. Honestly, BMWs really do feel like the ultimate driving machine because of their brilliant chassis. I reached 250 and 260 kph with the 530 and 535, respectively, on the A60 from Bitburg to Kaiserslautern and they felt stable. In fact, they felt more planted than my Z32 and Z33 going at 120 mph.
With that said, they are heavy, over-hyped and over-priced vehicles. I will never buy a BMW unless it's a cheap daily driver. I'm glad I bought another 350Z back in 2008 instead of a 335. More than a handful of my friends had their brand new BMWs sitting at the dealership for quite some time because of warranty issues. |

This kind of attitude is very much unwelcome on this forum. Please :gtfo2: |
Revive! I just saw this and funny enough I bought my wife an e39 m5 last year. In terms of acceleration to keep it on point, the M5 has way more low end torque and would easily leave my fully bolt on and tuned 370z. The manual gearbox in the M5 is infinitely times better than what my 370z had.

M5's are top end monsters, but also have a lot of low end torque. Footnote: If you can keep up with a e92 M3, SRT8, SS or ISF then you'll be able to run with a e39 M5. I've beat these M5's in my Tuned/CAI SRT8 before, but to be fair I've also annihilated Z's as well. I wanna run both my cars against each other, but don't trust anyone enough to drive either of them, but I'm sure my SRT8 would run circles around my lightly modded Nismo. |

You're nuts. Back in the day , in the army, my friend had an 03 M5. Was bought new. He was the owner of the company that did landscaping for vassar college. At the the time...it was sick. Youre on par or bettering it. Thing is a money pit man.
