The M5 is ridiculous. Purely in terms of acceleration, it will roast the Z, especially from 3rd gear on. Edit** Even the older ones. My buddy used to have one,

The M5 is ridiculous. Purely in terms of acceleration, it will roast the Z, especially from 3rd gear on.
Edit** Even the older ones. My buddy used to have one, and I have driven it. Handles like a boat compared to the Z, but it roars off the line. I cannot remember his mods, but I know he did most of the common items.
