A G is a RWD sport coupe with a very lean trunk and barely usable rear seats. The altima has more rear headroom, a larger trunk, bigger glove compartment, and costs $25,000 brand spanking, new, is decently featured and is more fun to drive than the accord coupe. Even though the Accord coupe has a better interior. But the altima is not a bad car. Like I said, it's a commuter car with more fun injected into it. Most people dont see beyond daily street driving. And half of those want something sporty and peppy, well built, well featured and "TRULY" hold 4 passengers. I think the Altima coupe filled that void in Nissans line-up. It's no FR-S, but the FR-S doesn't offer the altima's creature comforts for the same price. Plus you get a 14.1 second car which is awesome for $25k and on-ramp acceleration. VQ35de, you cant go wrong. I'm pretty sure it got cancelled based on the dwindling need for that size coupe. The Accord, coupe kind of dominates that sector, Solara, Sebring/200, were never as popular as the accord coupe either. Solara's dead and i wonder why chrysler bothers. Rumors of the BRZ fighting FWD/RWD vehicle is probably why the Altima coupe was cancelled. My guess is the BRZ fighter is coming as a Pulsar. I doubt it will be a Silvia because a Silvia is a RWD platform. If the next car is based on the Megane. It will be murderously good FWD.

I personally don't like accords. I was a huge fan of the Honda prelude. I agree on the maxima.

The fwd Economy sporty coupe basically died at Honda with just the civic si being left and Nissan took advantage for a while. |

My last car was a 4 door Altima, it got totaled last year, by an idiot texting. I started looking at the 2-door 3.5 Altima, I wanted something a little more sporty. I test drove a fully loaded one and really liked it, even made an offer, but they didn't take it. Saw a used 370z on their lot and test drove it, end of story

I see that, and I raise you:
The Altima Coupe is a fantastic car. I had a feeling it would get dropped once they stopped offering the V6 and a manual transmission for 2013 (MY2013 only offers CVT+2.5). I had a 3.5 6MT 2010 model. It was a tad nose heavy, but with upgraded coilovers and a LSD it was an absolute blast to drive daily. Not a Z (or a Z alternative, for that matter), but as far as a car that had great power, solid reliability, and excellent build quality to drive anywhere you wanted to go, I really didn't see much that could beat it. It was a car that was pretty quick in a straight line, but was comfortable enough to drive on long trips (neither my Z or my Mazda are really good for driving for 4+ hours, but I blame my Altima's comfort for the reason I dislike the Mazda for longer trips - I was spoiled). Anyway - Nissan lost me when they said the car had "Z Inspired Suspension" in the marketing papers for MY2011. They didn't market the car properly. The FWD Grand Tourer Coupe segment is kinda dry these days - people in that market are likely going to buy the Accord Coupe if they want something like that, but then again, a nicely equipped Genesis Coupe can be had for the same price point as the AC and Accord, and I think the Accord nameplate will be the reason it survives in the market whereas a lesser established Altima Coupe is meeting its demise. The Genesis has changed things up a good bit (Hyundai in general). |

I think the Z inspired suspension was the spring rates were equal so they took bumps kinda equal. For an enthusiast, you're thinking in terms of cornering and you're like "no way". But in a straight line. The Z and 3.5 altima feel very similar, thus, "Z inspired suspenson". Still not very precise considering cornering is everything in a suspension.

I always hated the rear of the Altima coupe. Back in 08 I was looking at the altima and accord coupes and preferred the accord except the v6 auto had the vcm garbage. I decided to drive the altima 3.5 sedan back to back with the coupe and they felt almost exactly the same. The decision was a no brainer for me after that so I got the sedan. The Altima coupe was a good idea on paper but poorly executed imo. It really had no sporting benefits over the sedan, and was smaller and less utilitarian.
I do miss my Altima. It was a great dd and road trip car. Big, comfy, and pretty quick for its class. |
