I've seen a couple at a dealership who deals with me for parts. Too much plastic for my liking. Nice design, though. Really retro!! (Kind of like the Challenger in a VW Beetle kind of way:nutswinger:)

zZSportZz 07-16-2009 06:36 PM

LOL...so you mean I couldn't even buy a manual SS Camaro atm cause they stopped making them due to gear box failure? Thats kinda funny.

Yes, they are currently stopping all shipments.

If I HAD to pick a domestic sports car. Id get the 2010 stang or the challenger. IMO the Camaro is done way over the top. Overkill.

On the other hand if anybody has seen the challengers interior youll know what I mean by plain as black coffee. Real dull interior.

I was actually cross shopping the Camaro until I went to the local Chevy dealer. It went something like this:
Me: "So do you have any new Camaros on the lot?"
Chevy Salesperson: "Just the one we sold and is being picked up later tonight by the owner. It's an SS. You can look at it from the outside, but that's it."
Me: After looking at the car. "Cool. Are you getting anymore in anytime soon?"
CS: "Not that we know of for the next couple of months. If you want one, you gotta special order one."
Me: "So how does an interested buyer, like myself, get a chance to test drive one?"
CS: "Well, after you order it, financing is approved, and you sign the papers, you could take it out for a spin. Also, these are selling at three-thousand or so above MSRP, and are on an order only basis."
Me: "Ok, well I am not going to buy a vehicle without a test drive, you have any sales brochures?"
CS: "Nope, all out."
Me: "Ok thanks for your time, goodbye."

IMHO, Chevy's got a good thing going with these cars, but they are messing up the endgame in completing the sale with a lot of potential buyers. Sure the car looks great, but I would not buy one on looks alone. The car is pretty big too, so does it feel like a land yacht or a vintage or modern muscle car? I'll never know without a test drive.

Now, the die-hard Chevy and Camaro fans will probably eat these up and pay the premiums, as well as the-gotta-have-it people, but I'm betting that's a small fraction of the potential market for this car. I've already made my mind up that the 370Z is the car to beat in my mind and that door is closing quickly, as I will likely be buying one soon.

Why is anyone surprised that GM is having problems with a first gen vehicle?
It's their MO. They make bad designs, and try to work them out in the assembly line rather than doing most of the work on the drawing table.
It's ridiculous that the Camaro was in development for as long as it was, and to still have major issues...

Looks... I still like it. The 68 Camaro with the folding lights is one of the sweetest looking cars every made. The new one captures a little of that, but as has been said... they made it too big. Somewhere along the line the "pony" part of pony car was lost in favor of Clydesdale.

I work with a guy that got the first Camaro delivered in DFW. It's a red SS and is pretty to look at and has a great V8 growl, but it only took me a few minutes to know I wouldn't buy one.

I detest GM's interior philosophy of cramming as much crap as possible into every nook and cranny as they can. Pontiac was the worst.

IDZRVIT 07-16-2009 08:24 PM

Reality check: Camaros are selling like hot cakes. The Oshawa plant can barely keep up with the orders. So, how are the Z's selling? GM has bragging rights in my opinion.

JB1 07-16-2009 08:25 PM

I like the looks of it, but it still is too much of a big and heavy old skool muscle car. IMHO the Z is much more of a sports car. One thing I don't understand is why I see so many Camaros at Avis, while dealers are saying they are in short supply and charging huge premiums? At each the 4 or 5 five Avis locations I have recently been to, they had at least 6 Camaros.

:iagree: I think GM lost some good sales due to a. dealers attitude toward this car. b. GM not able to deliver this car, lets say, at least an year earlier. Also, their financial stand point isn't helping.

I would still drive one though (Black SS model) :driving:

One of my close friend is this close ---> ll to giving up on the camaro. Way too much run around by the dealer, no test drive, extended waiting time etc. I told him to go test drive a 370Z [sorry, I don't let anyone drive (or test drive) my car. You can call me selfish!]

They may look nice but check out all the problems people are having with them before they even get them off the lot...

I read the title and thought "oh no, not another camaro thread," but AKs info above is pretty funny.

smurfblu13 07-17-2009 03:01 AM

I've driven one, I mean it is what it is. It's an American car so given the interior is nothing to write home about. Looks wise it's decent, however I think the whole look factor will decrease when they are a more common occurrence. I only got to drive the V6 as they did not have any SS's and even for the V6 is can get up and go. Again not anything to write home about but it was surprising for the V6 in my opinion.
