Newbie and need some advice
Guys,
I am new to this forum and need some advice. My name is Neil I live in Malaysia (I am from the UK). I am 55 years old 6’3” 235 lbs and work in the Oil industry in Nigeria. One month ago I put a deposit down on a 2008 Nissan GTR and plan to pay for it and pick it up when I get home next week. The cost of the GTR is US$120k Up and until yesterday I was really excited about getting my new car but for some reason yesterday I started to get this niggled feeling about the age of the GTR and am I doing the right thing in paying 120 grand for a 4 year old car. The car is in mint condition with 9k kilometers on it and the garage where I am buying the car from is allowing me to take the car to the Nissan dealership in KL to have it inspected before I pay for it. What I am thinking now is should I forget the GTR (loose 1k deposit) and just buy a new 370z for the same price $120k. I did sit in a 350z 4 years ago and I didn’t feel comfortable in it as the cabin felt very small, I have yet to sit in a 370Z but my gut feeling is that it will be a similar size. I just worry that with the GTR being 4 years old it is going to cost me a fortune to keep it on the road, especially as whoever had the GTR before me would not have been driving it around town at 30 mph JJ Any advice tips would be much appreciated |

Good lord a new 370 costs 120k in US dollars over there!?
The GT-R will be more comfortable than the 370 as far as cabin space goes. If you can get a extended warranty, everything checks out, you can afford the upkeep *which will be expensive* and don't plan to mod it much, Id say you'll be alright. |

Do you want my Nismo? I only ask $60k! $120k for a new 370z?!!
OP, I think the 370z would be little to tiny for you. Plus for the same amount of money(120k) I'd go for the GTR for sure. GTR and 370z are in the different league. |

i'm still in shock from those prices i can get a 2013 GTR here for $90k but $120K for one that old just blows my mind. i'm sure shipping and possible customs would add some cost.

We just had a member spend $120k+ on a 370Z in Peru!!! I believe it was in Malaysia that someone bought a Konigsegg for over a million dollars tried to sneak it in because the import tax is like 500% or whatever Customs impounded it and is asking $5 million to release it |

What you CAN do is "move" to Peru, and you can take all the used cars you "own", then sell them. Now THAT is worth the time/effort/money, lol You can do it once every... 3 years or so... |

The dealer should be able to, and TECHNICALLY, 0 is ok
The early gens had problems with launches, some trannies would break after 20, some after 200, and warranty never covered it Evidently you can get an upgrade which allows launch control, but I'm not a GTR expert |

I'd def. test-drive both before making a decision.
For sure, having a brand new car; you'll know where it's been b/c you'll be the only one who has driven it. Is that price in Malaysia or UK? yes, most imported cars in Thailand are easily 3x the price of that same car with bigger engines in USA. I live there off and on for many years. |

They can do that by checking VDC off stall starts in the data monitor section of the consult III but that only matters really if its an older GTR if you are buying a 2012+ the launches are full warranted and its not a taboo of oh this car has X amount of launches as its not recorded the same way as its a normal operating process of the car. I see you are interested in a 2008. that car is the one to be most concerned with about launches. i would want one with 0 launches but if there is 4-5 or something. real world thats a non issue Last edited by MC; 02-04-2013 at 02:24 AM. |
