Toying around with the idea of trading in the 12 370Z for 2009 GTR in the Atlanta area

Was wondering what anyone thoughts are and if its a bit too high....

I like doing things like this, not that it will happen, but you never know, what will happen

I do owe a bit on the Z yet and it has 22500 miles on it....

22500 on a '12? Either way just remember, you may get the GTR for under 60k but if the originally price of the GTR is way out of budget......maintaining the GTR with that amount of driving is gonna sink you.

x2. Have to look at the purchase holistically (gas/insurance/mnx/etc), not just at the initial purchase price. I would concentrate on getting your Z paid off quickly and setting aside that payment once complete towards a bigger down payment on a GTR or as a buffer for the inevitable.

We all have that "dream" car, but just because I can afford the payments doesn't mean I can afford the maintenance. So I try to be happy with what is fully in my budget and for now the Z in my main man. I don't want to be driving a hot car such as the GTR and be worried about when the tune up time comes can I afford it. Just my $.02!

MC (moderator) said that maintenance isn't much except for tires. I'm sure you can haggle the price down more. Buy it!

What kind of payments are you looking at? Will you get a 72 or 84 month loan?

Also if you put 22K on a car in one year, I would not get a GT-R as a DD. ouch

make sure both the transmission and diff fluids have been changed at the 18K mark
if so that leaves you with another 8K miles before its needed again. that change of both fluids will run you around $1K

also with 27K miles take a look at the rotors and make sure there are no cracks around the drilled holes and your fingernail cant catch a lip at the top of the rotor

i see its not at the nissan dealership. i would have a nissan tech pull up engine and tranny temp history records as that will give you an idea of how its been treated aswell as VDC OFF STALL STARTS( which is launch control) since its a 2009 with an early VIN # before the reflash. if it has more than a couple i wouldnt buy it. also i would see if they could tell you if its ever been tuned


price isnt too wildy high especially from a dealership but i would be in for about 57Kish on that car with the mileage


maintance isnt too high besides tires and it looks like they have been swapped to a non run flat michelin

22k in a year on a GTR. OEM says that the GTR brakes will go out in about 18k miles worth of STREET driving. No track time. Brake job on the GTR is anywhere form $4500-$8500. If you are still contemplating, just google the upkeep on a GTR. $8-10k for ANNUAL maintenance.

brakes last closer to 30K+ with no tracking and you can probably get by with just a pad change the first time at about 20K or when needed if no rotor damage or extreme wear.

yes an all OEM brake replacement is about 6K but you can go to like a stillen AP rotor slotted or jhook set with pads for about 3Kish. No one really goes back to OEM brake parts on a GTR and if they do there are a lot of take off parts available out there from owners who ditch the OEM stuff.

On my 09 i sold it with 14,500 miles on it and had probably 40% brake pad life and rotors were in great condition and could have easily taken a pad swap if needed. that was with maybe 12-14 autocrosses and 3 track days and handful of strip runs as part of those 14.5 miles

oil change is around every 6K miles ($60-100) tranny and diff every 18K miles ($1K) tires every 7-9K miles ( $2200 for OEM runflats $1500+ for aftermarket non runflats)

so for example if you drive less than 10K miles a year ( i averaged 7K+ in my 09 and just 3-4K on my 12) your looking at a couple oil changes a year and maybe a set of tires or even just fronts as they wear out much quicker than rears and can be changed in pairs if the wear difference (diameter) isnt too great. ive put on a set of 8/32nd fronts with maybe 4-5/32nd rears and had no issues.

then say a $1K major fluid change roughly every other year..

so in a two year period of 20K miles maybe $4K in maintenance and most of that is tires taking in to account a full set

in calender year 2012 was all in for about $1400 maintenance as i would have spent maybe 1K on front tires and then $60 for an oil change back in june. while there At 4K miles i did swap out my diff fluid to the new 2013 nismo spec for $300 but it wasnt needed and purely optional.

Too many unknowns and too risky if you don't have sufficient funds at your disposal. If it were brand new with a warranty, I'd say go for it...but you just don't know how the car has been treated. You may be able to afford the maintenance, but could you afford a new engine or transmission out of warranty?

that is something to think about for sure i probably wouldnt ever own a GTR out of warranty and thats another reason why i wouldnt tune my own personal car

on that 09 there is a 5 year 60K powertrain but after that you are on your own. with that said it isnt as scary as it used to be a transmission rebuild is about 3-4K at a trusted GTR tuner shop. engine are super solid and a failure wouldnt be too high on a things to worry about list unless it was a major power build. the bumper to bumper is already over and that covers things like the electronics which are pretty expensive in this car. would suck to buy one of these at the upper level of your budget then the NAV/INFO unit or something like that go out on it

Funny thing about this car, when looking at the car fax, it was at a Nissan dealer here in town and then auction off.....
