The car most enthusiasts still sleep on

It's the fact that you said 'I will never buy a car with a crooked........EVER..........EVER' That means you are unwilling to EVER let them prove themselves. That's an old school

But it's the truth, that's my personal decision, don't get offended by that.

If you are willing to give them the chance, feel free. Let them prove their worth to you. I hope you don't let those numbers on paper sway you so easily lol

Nissan has history, subaru has history, honda has history, mitsubishi has history, Toyota has history, ford and Chevy has history, is that **** hard to understand??

At what point would you consider them proven? What exactly does a car have to show to be proven? There are still Mustang and Vette guys out there that are still waiting for Honda, Toyota, and Nissan to prove themselves.

You can stay on the Hyundai hating bandwagon. It's ok, everyone's doing it. The point of this thread was to say that the car is overlooked and underestimated by the mass, which it is. Sure it doesn't perform as good as the others, but it's thousands less, what do you expect? With a few mods its a really fun car to drive, which is really all that matters.

My point is, it is overlooked because they haven't done ****. Where is their racing heritage? All those companies I mentioned has been in races, wrc's, f1 whatever's. Honda, ford, Toyota, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Chevy, wether it is drift, f1, rally, they all have something, look it up.

Hyundai came out yesterday. That's why they are overlooked. I'm done here. Won't be replying.

You guys need to all buy the hyundais soon lol

Look I'm not saying Hyundai has to have a racing program, all I'm saying is it takes time. Personally I wouldn't buy one though.

They had the Silvia, Silvia R, pulsar Gti R, gtr, 300zx, and other cars, i think they know wtf they are doing when it comes to sports cars.

Hyundai though has a gen coupe with 348 Hp oh damn!!!!
Still missing the point. We are all nissan enthusiasts and we know our heritage. But the question posed isn't a heritage c0ck-measuring session. It's a future cars session, and if you notice? We are talking about cars in a 30k to 50k range. When i say it wasn't tangible to US till 2008. Its because the GT-R hasnt affected our domestic market since then.
Since we are talking about future cars, in an affordable price-point. GT-R heritage is a minor footnote in a larger discussion.

But yeah, if we are whipping our c0cks out. Then yeah our NA v6's our superior to all in our price range and then some. Our cars give better feeback and more precision than most.

But where is the car market heading? will we meet the challenges of tomorrow? The market is convoluted and going many directions... No one has claimed a competitor but one company for the next gen cars. HYUNDAI.

As far as nissan, so far, i cant tell if we will keep battling porsche or make scion our new benchmark? lol so heritage and all, I find hyundai very interesting right now based on the competitor they chose. we still havent defined one and there is not even one small factoid out there except the exhaust not of a Q50. lol

Lastly, when companies are spending alot of money on R&D to make performance parts for a car, and that car has as many parts for sale as us. There's gotta be a reason, and my comptitive radar goes up.

I try to keep an open mind about all cars/brands. My daughter drives a Mustang, my son drives a Dodge 1500, my other son a 528i, my wife a Veloster Turbo and I have an MKX for DD...

What it all boils down to is whether or not the vehicle meets the needs of the driver and whether that vehicle is a good value. This includes warranty, style, performance, quality, reliability and everything else factored in. I will consider every possible vehicle when buying a new car, and narrow it down based on my previous stated needs, desires, etc.

In the end, I bought the Hyundai based on features, quality, performance, price, economy and style. I am very satisfied with the purchase and have nothing bad to say about the brand so far. For a fully loaded car that rivals others that cost thousands more, I believe I got a great value for my dollar.

Thats a little over 7k difference if you compare apples to apples. There is a reason why the wheels arent forged, and the interior isnt quite as nice. As far as the actual performance of the cars, the 370z has almost 40 years of experience behind its engineering. The Genesis is Hyundais first real sports car, they have some bugs to work out.

The 370z really isnt a competitor anyhow, just using it as comparison.

Hyundai is in the process of proving themselves atm imo.

First you have to compare the right two models, as you did.
Then do the pricing math... and for shyts and giggles throw in the 2.0 turbo rspec pricing which is like $26k'ish? then factor 10kdeficit from Z pricing and convert it to turbo mods on a pre-plumbed F.I. motor??? I mean, there's potential in these cars for tuners, in spite of... (just playing devils advocate)
That 2.0 may be a threat to automotive society in the right mechanics hands???

Fair enough. But I've seen far too many Hyundai's go through our shop. And I've sold countless parts over the years for them, that my view is a little tainted. You get the feel for that. I'll give them about another five years or so. If their quality remains and their reliability is half decent (not like the past 10 years). Then, I would consider them. Until then, I can't give them any respect.

Time will tell.

I think the next gen will show more than just a great "budget sports car" I think we'll see a real competitor.
agreed, imo if they refine the gen coupe out a bit more, maybe more away from a DI engine or fix carbon build up and i feel it would be the perfect DD sports car

i wouldnt consider it a track day car though, but maybe thats just my Z fanboy showing XD

I feel you. And I'm sure if you compare a G37s to a 370z, you'd probably wouldn't want the G as your track car either.

I'm just nervous about all this sketchy Z info. Everytime magazines mention the Z and BRZ in the same breath when it comes to nissans next generation iteration. People say on paper numbers are garbage but I will challenge this theory of on paper stats meaning nothing.

The Z gained praise in 09 for having identical on paper stats as the Porsche Cayman S while beating it in overall grip. The Cayman S @ the time was a 13.3 second quarter mile car that averaged .94g on the skidpad. The Z pushed 13.1 (with automatic with .99g on the skidpad. On paper... this car was considered a Porsche fighter. The Z is far from the fastest car on the road but a driver capable enough can show a real competitive edge on paper.

If the "SO CALLED" extremely fun and "BEST OVERALL SPORTS CAR" in the world is a FRS/BRZ. And all of a sudden, these are the stats to beat???? The Z's new on paper quota to beat is 16 second quarters and .93g on the skidpad. I would call that 2 steps forward and 4 steps back.
If we make the BRZ our competitor? And Hyundai makes the BMW 3 series the competitor. We go from Porsche to subaru while Hyundai goes from infiniti to BMW. As it stands the gencoupe 2.0 CREAMS a BRZ on a roadcoarse. Now I don't see either of these cars as any real Z competitors. But when people in mags talk on types of cars tfor Nissan to beat or battle. That gets me nervous cuz as of now... NISSAN HAS THESE CARS BEAT BY A MILE...
My biggest Z fear is a Nissan downgrade while these little guys upgrade. Hmmm? One to ponder. I hope all this Bullshyt BRZ hype doesn't make nissan feel the need to downgrade the Z??? Remember, Mr K back in 2010 compained of the Z being to heavy. And power being too much of the focus. Mr K didn't like the Z34. Sadly I do.

The 2014 Porsche Cayman S with Sport Chrono package is the car to beat. 12.6 quarter mile. That number to me means something. The BRZ 15.9 seconds means as much to me as used toilet paper.

While I know sports cars aren't defined by speed. Speed and handling is my personal preference. I love fast cars that handle awesome. Sorry if I broke sports car law??? But the Z is a perfect combo of the above. (Though a little to front heavy)

Hopefully if Nissan does "downsize", it will be lighter with a 300hp turbo engine! Thats just dreaming though lol.

Funny story, I actually drove my fiances Genesis to help out a buddy last night whos 370 suffered from the steering lock failure. Luckily we were able to tap on it and get it started to pull the fuse. Anyway, back on topic!:

From my little drive last night, it refreshed me on how the car drives. The steering is a little sloppy. Not quite as direct or precise as the Z. The transmission feels almost lifeless when you shift the gears. Like the gear shifter is stuck in a tub of butter. I like that you can feel the vibrations in the shift knob and the clunkiness in the Z. The gas pedal also has a slight delay in it, same as the Z (I hate that). It handles fine enough for me but its lowered on coilovers. Its still not bad however. I could drive it as a daily. The interior is a little cheap but it doesnt bother me.

I respect the GenCoupe, but I'd still take a new G37s over it any day of the week and twice on Thursday.

Personal opinion, of course, but the G is one of my favorite cars out there. Sporty, responsive, refined, luxurious, comfortable, beautiful.
