What year used GTR

I stink at web searches.

What year used GTR is the best value? Reduced HP to save $. I once read you can get your older GTR brought up to current spec for $20K.

I welcome any thoughts here.

I been seeing 09s more and more for around 50-60K. 2012 i see a few in the mid 70K range w 20,000 miles. I am searching as well.

65K for one lower than 20k miles...

Honestly the fact that you can get THAT much car for 50-60k is awesome. Double the Z.

Probably an 09-10, but make sure the warranty wasn't voided from tuning, excessive launching, etc.

Red__Zed 12-20-2012 12:29 PM

the answer varies depending on your use and whether you care about the warranty

:iagree:

Personally, I love the warranty, and I'd get a later model so I can USE launch control for shitz n giggles without breaking anything

That tranny costs like 20k to replace

You can get the launch control software updated through the dealership so you can use it without warranty concerns IIRC. You just can't over do it with the number of launches though.

Hmmm, did not know that... Because I KNOW a crapload of early GTR's had dying trannies that weren't covered under warranty

Also, to the OP, have you ever looked into the operating costs of the GTR?

I cannot afford one, yet (considered buying one with my brother)... I LOVE the car too, but when the operating cost of my GTR being a "reliable" Japanese car is MORE than a Ferrari... Count me out...
(Ferrari now offers 7 years of complimentary maintenance on all new models, the only thing that is required is an oil change every 12k miles or 12 months, yeah, I guess brake pads aren't included)

EDIT: had to add :stirthepot:

b1adesofcha0s 12-20-2012 01:08 PM

Yeah, I think the problem with the early software was you had to turn VDC off to use launch control.....and then they would void the warranty because you had VDC off. I think the newer launch control software allows you to launch with VDC on.

Japanjay 12-20-2012 01:28 PM

I think that is was that it launched harder. The new software tames the launch a bit more to save the tranny. I believe the 09's had the hardest launch, hence why they went through so many trannies.

that is correct. '09 had the highest (that i can remember) launch RPM. while this did lead to some failures, the '09 and '10 GTR's seem to have more transmission issues in general with seals and o-rings and what not. they seemed to have ironed them out mostly by '11. the '12s have a modified transmission with a physically larger 1st gear along with other minor refinements. i do know the '10s have a better LCD for the nav screen that was much higher resolution. there were some suspension tweaks every year and of course in '12 they came with larger turbo piping and went up to 530hp (now 545hp) out of the box. yes you can get the older ones there without much trouble but the newer ones have more mod potential.

kenchan 12-20-2012 02:57 PM

oh yah, dont forget they also have failing steering locks!
