How is the Z less reliable than an IS-F?

LukasC 12-06-2012 01:39 AM

I "had fun" with an isf and beat him. He asked me afterwards dude what do u have under your hood!?? I was like not much just an exhaust and intake haha. I say keep the z who needs back seats anyways thats what a rope and sled are for

Steering lock, fuel starvation, bad CSC?

I have a soft spot for sports sedans & like the idea of a 4-door that can perform like a sports car.

The IS-F seems like a good car to have as your only car . . . What is your other car? Would you trade that one in, too ?

Yes, Lexus reliability would be great. From reading reviews. . . early models lacked a supple ride and limited slip differential: somethings to think about.

If you really want to buy this type of car, you should also test-drive the Mercedes C63 AMG, BMW M3, and Audi RS4 for comparison.

I have both, a 2012 Nismo and a '09 ISF. I like the ISF because it has one of the meanest exhaust notes past 3500 RPMs. It can be a nice sleeper like a couple people on here have said...most can't tell the difference between an ISF and a IS250. Interior is extremely nice. Very smooth , quick shifting 8-speed transmission. Yes, there are faster sedans, but clearly you weren't interested in a merc or BMW, so I think you would enjoy the ISF......I just like the Nismo for its cornering.

1. afaik, steering lock was fixed in 2010
2. only really applies if you track your car and/or drive like an *** on public roads, i cant think of one senario where a regular driver will run into this issue unless he is driving an ***
3. this is the only real failure here and can be fixed with an aftermarket CSC and it only affects the 6MT 370z, this problem doesnt even exist on the 7AT 370z

now here are some problems that exist on all ISF models(well models with DI)
carbon build up(though not as bad as the IS250, its still pretty bad), you have fake exhaust tips, and no manual option(which isnt a problem but if you are gonna buy AT than you should compare problems to the AT 370z not the MT 370z)

@OP
if you want a sedan that will go fast and make good power, i would suggest a used M3, used AMG Mercedes, a used CTS-V, or a brand new Charger SRT8
here is a video comparing the C63 AMG and M3 to the lexus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXIIieUFH0M

oh and if you want to stay with japanese imports, you can always find a used EVO 8/9 making loads of power and even if it isnt, you can always retune the car, install a FMIC and CBE and make good power off the stock system(iirc the 4g63t stock internals are good for 600whp, and stock fuel pump should be good for 25psi and the re-circulation valve on the evo9 can easily hold 27psi)

imo though, keep the Z but if you really want a sports sedan get something else other than the ISF

mwhit02 01-03-2013 06:24 PM

I test drove a 2012 M3 and it had no balls down low like my F

forza370z 01-03-2013 06:53 PM

Keep the z, unless the LF-LC is out.

The Z is a LOT reliable than the ISF.
I have both, so please don't start flaming for no damn reason

All I have to say is that I enjoy taking my cars to the dealer to fúck them into fixing things so that corporate loses money and I get a free rental...

My Lexus hasn't gone in for anything in over 2 years...

My Z... The first week I bought it, the second week... A month after, a few months after... And I have a laundry list of things it needs to go in for now

EDIT: real problems too, tranny clunking, gas gauge doesn't show full AGAIN, cruise control doesn't work, seat belt winder is fúcked... (Door and roof panels squeak too)

Rui Z 01-03-2013 11:15 PM

Why do you even keep the Z then? You should just drive the ISF everyday since it's more fun, practical, and reliable.

I broke my assbone and the Z is more comfy, lol

And the Z seats 2

And the ISF feels as it has more grip and that's the reason it brings me more joy...
You're in a 4 door quiet car and you're amazed it can do what it does, and it does it so well!

Oh, and the sound of a V8, no meisterhitler or Amuse exhaust can replicate that sound

Ni55anPat 01-03-2013 11:41 PM

Alot of people just think it's a regular IS250/350 from what i've noticed, until you tell them what it really z.

Still think the Z is sexier, with the savings in $$, boost and call it a day.
