My new 911 Carrera S (pic heavy)

Guys, I have been waiting so long to make this post. My 911 has arrived!!!

Click on the pics to enlarge them!

It all started when I saw this video:
Testing the 2012 Porsche Carrera 911 - YouTube

I then started obsessing over it, determined to buy one once they released. I test drove the base model, and greatly enjoyed it, but I knew down the road I would have wished I got the S model. A quick test drive later and I was certain that the S was for me. I also considered waiting until the new Cayman came out, but decided that nothing beats a 911. I'm going to be keeping this car most likely forever (I really do mean that), so having a timeless design further persuaded me to forget about the Cayman. Now of course I would prefer a GTS (which will not be coming out anytime soon) or a GT3 (should come out decently soon, but I think I can settle with the S .

I continuously checked dealerships across the US to see if they had the configuration I wanted, but they did not. After some time I became impatient with waiting and pulled the trigger on custom ordering one. I will be doing this from now on when it comes to cars, because there is almost no difference in negotiation room compared to the same year model on the lot. Deciding between the 7MT (which has a system extremely similar to the SRM on our cars) and the PDK was at first hard for me, but after getting behind the wheel of the new PDK system in these cars, oh my. It was perfect, and so I chose to go for the PDK.

The major options on the car are:
Dark Blue Metallic
Platinum finish Carrera S wheels (looks so amazing IMO)
Two tone full leather interior (black / platinum)
Sport Chrono Package
Premium Package Plus
Bose

Driving impressions:
This car is like a knife. It is so precise on turn in and really makes you feel comfortable to feather the throttle through the apex. I cannot sense any over or understeer. It is sooo refined with such a nice interior. No NVH, smooth ride, great gas mileage, and it feels so light! I'm still breaking it in, but putting it on Sport mode and activating the sound symposer sounds amazing even under 4K RPMs. Its freaky how the car transforms from being smooth and frugal at the pumps, to a ready to go track car at the touch of a few buttons. I have since done a 1.09 lateral G turn on the streets, and it felt like I could have gone SO much faster (I'll save that for a track). The lights that turn as you turn are also very nice when going through winding roads. Down the road I will be looking into an exhaust system to liven up the car even more (not that it needs it..). But as of now I am so happy and satisfied that I cannot even complain about a SINGLE thing on the car. It really is just perfect.

For now I will be keeping my 370Z, as I need 2 cars (as I currently have travel back and forth from NM to CA very often). I will however be selling it before I pay the residual value on the car (currently leasing it for tax reasons). Oh and an important note: Lease payments vary from dealership to dealership. The difference between total price paid after 36 months plus residual value between a Hoehn Porsche of San Diego and Beverly Hills Porsche was about $7K!!

I can go on and on about impressions on the car, if you guys want to know anything in particular, please just ask!

Here are some pics that the dealer sent me when the car arrived, and some pics I took myself.

wow gorgeous car, congrats!

LakeShow 11-30-2012 04:40 PM

Congrats on the new ride! I've really fell in love with the new refresh on the 911. Great color choice as well, that distinct and classic Porsche blue. I drove a Porsche Panamera Turbo with the PDK system and it is blisteringly quick with the shifts and also when you trigger that sport button it really does make a world of a difference. Enjoy it in good health mate!!

Nismo89 11-30-2012 04:42 PM

congrats man, cherish her :)

Mikes350z 11-30-2012 04:42 PM

Who's jealous? This guy!

speedfreek 11-30-2012 05:37 PM

Sick! Congrats and enjoy.

Japanjay 11-30-2012 05:46 PM

Congrats!. Can you keep the spoiler up? With it down it doesnt look as raw as it does up. The new cayman R hints a being very promising and a good challenger for the 911 non-turbo's.

Those Panamera Turbos are crazy fast. I test drove a Panamera GTS and man that thing was sweet, with the Sport Exhaust on it sounded far meaner than the 911 - but I do love that raw mechanical 911 sound.

Exactly what I first thought. Especially when looking at the rear lines compared to a 997. So sharp.

Some of the spy shots for the 991 gt3 make me agree with you. I may end up splurging and going for the areocup kit (rear ducktail with wing on top as well as front bumper) which is pretty much what the gt3 has besides the sweet center exhaust.

I couldn't agree more. One of the first things I noticed compared to the Z is the feeling in the steering.

Not only can you keep the spoiler up, but you can adjust how tilted you want it by holding the 'spoiler button'. When its fully extended I think it clashes with the lines of the car, so I normally hold it for a second which puts it at the half way point, making it parallel with the road. Oh and I love the new Cayman! I can't imagine how amazing the boxter spyder and Cayman R are going to be.

I will soon enough! I actually think the girlfriend will be buying one for me this Xmas.

zero 11-30-2012 06:21 PM

Xmas came early. Congrats!!!!

bigdog1250 11-30-2012 06:25 PM

I test drove a loaded Carrera S a few weeks ago and completely agree with you. Well worth the sticker price. Porsche is perfection.

Enjoy it! You've certainly earned it.

Cmike2780 11-30-2012 06:30 PM

I'm Jelly.

Awesome car and even more awesome that you still have the Z

I just rode in a 911 for the first time on Wednesday and I am honestly impressed with the car!

That's because porshe puts the z to shame unfortunately and he mentioned he will be selling the z:(

Damn that's a gorgeous car! Congrats!

I will! And thanks! It was as if my entire academic and professional life flashed before my eyes as I turned the ignition on for the first time. It's almost as if all my hard work was for this :icon17:

I can't part with the Z just yet!

I actually disagree with this statement! Sure Porsche does put the Z to shame when it comes to quality of parts, refinement, and vast difference in NVH, but when you're in the zone on a windy road staying in third and maybe the occasional fourth gear for miles at a time, the Z really does deliver the driving experience that is in the same ballpark as the 911. If I could, I would keep the Z and fully track prep it, but that would cost a lot and I would need the money for the residual payment or put it towards a new car for the gf (wifey at that time).

So bottom line, when I land in Albuquerque, I still am stupendously excited to get back in my Z.

RoshDawg 11-30-2012 07:18 PM

Thanks again everyone! Really glad other people are liking (or at least not complaining!) the color combo that I picked out. I was worried about it for the longest time as I had never seen it together before.

RoshDawg 11-30-2012 07:24 PM

Hmm why did the mods move this thread? I thought everyone posts their new car purchase in the general section. And there is plenty of Z comparisons to make it relevant!

Waiz 11-30-2012 07:34 PM

Technically this is not Z-related so it belongs in Other Vehicles

I wouldn't agree with this statement, Porsche is nice but my Z is still relevant and at less than half the price you get a great car!

i think its because the general discussion portion is for Z only talk. you bought a Porsche, therefore it belongs in the "other vehicles" portion.

Amazing car buddy! Enjoy!

My dad as a 911 Turbo and is thinking of selling it for the new style. I love Porsche's. My dad as been a member of the North American Porsche club since I have been a kid and LOVE going to the Porsche track days.

Nismo89 12-01-2012 11:54 AM

are you going to use it for a track car at all? or just use it as your weekend car?

Red__Zed 12-01-2012 12:07 PM

Sick ride bud. I'm jealous--enjoy it (not that you need any encouragement to do so)
