2013 Hyundai Turbo Veloster
Just picked it up Saturday (15 Sept) after placing an order on the 6th of July!
Review to come..... Edit: one week update.... Well, let's run down the mechanical first. The 1.6L direct injection gas engine is peppy and uses the 200+ Hp and Approx 200ft/lbs of torque effectively delivering extremely smooth acceleration and power. However it is a bit too smooth I think. My wife loves it but it feels anaemic next to the Z. Clutch feel is soft and engagement point is hard to discern. Coupled with a near silent exhaust, I managed to stall the car at least once. Oops. Steering response is solid with good feel and feedback. Body roll is noticeable but not intrusive. The solid leather seats are very comfortable and hold you well in the corners. Overall fit and finish is impeccable. Very impressed with the build quality. Fuel economy is good but as the car is new I only expect it to get better. Averaging 8.8L /100km right now. Hwy should be about 5.2 The paint has surpassed all of my expectations of quality and look. It is dead sexy. The matte finish is like silk to the touch and has an even coat and finish. Still have not received the Dr.Beasly's matte care kit for the car so I will review that when it comes. More to come! Now the wife wants to race me....

1.6L I4, 16 valves, 201 hp @ 6000 rpm
26 mpg city / 38 mpg hwy 2800lbs MT MSRP $21,950 Honestly, I'd take this over a Honda Civic. THIS is what "Honda owners" complained about Honda recently since forever. With the right mods, this Velostar will definitely be a hot hatch. Hyundai really developing into an awesome car company I would like to own a vehicle with one of these days. It's like they're taking all the complaints from Honda and Toyota owners and try to at least work into something enthusiasts would enjoy.

Do love that color...If they continue with the matte colors I may get one for my second car in 7 or 8 years..

I was told that the first and only production run of the matte grey has been run and that no more are planned for this year. My car was in the first run and is now part of an exclusive club of matte grey owners! Still waiting for build number and # of how many built...

I'm curious to see your review on this car as well.
This review seems to compare it too much to the GTI and other hatches. Last edited by coltrain; 09-17-2012 at 02:29 PM. |

My expectations of this car are simple:
1) Get good fuel economy 2) Be fun to drive 3) Have a cool style and uniqueness 4) Be reliable as a DD year 'round Everything else is a bonus! The list of features is impressive. The main thing that sold my wife other than the style was the option load. Heated leather seats, Nav, Bluetooth, push button start, glass roof, HID lights, Halo lights and LED's, and of course, the matte finish... My impression of handling is solid so far. No sports car but decent. Acceleration is linear and no noticeable turbo lag in normal driving, the Twin Scroll is good at eliminating most of that... Fit and finish of the interior is great with no noticeable flaws. Material and workmanship on the interior seats and cabin is very impressive and makes the Z look a little cheap... Again, more to come when I can get some seat time!

This is a pretty cool hatch. I see lots of em in my area. I think people want a quality alternative to the GTI which is pricey now.

Nice car ! ya, i like these, too. I was at the Hyundai dealership lot w/ my Mom, yesterday. We liked the Genesis Coupe and Sonata 2.0T sedan. My Mom is starting to look at different cars that she might lease. She drives a 2010 Nissan Maxima now . . .
