Do you know what kinda care is required for that paint job??? Just asking since I read up on it, and even for me who only drives the Z in

Do you know what kinda care is required for that paint job??? Just asking since I read up on it, and even for me who only drives the Z in the sun, this volester would probably be to much of a pita to deal with the paint maintenance. There is a reason as to why matte has never been a factory option in mass produced cars.

At the auto show like 2 years ago, they had 2 kia sorrento's. One matte black and the other matte red. I think they will be going further under both hyundai and kia makes. The matte red looked awesome.

I was shocked as two how sporty the veloster interior is. I used to make fun of this car as a prototype but then I sat in one at the auto show this year... The leather seats are incredibly designed. The red and white contrast leather is my favorite as well as the sand and black. The gencoupe has nothing on that interior. I been perplexed as to why hyundai didn't step up more on the gencoupe.
This car is getting a lot of flack but the suspension issues are nothing a good $1500 coilover kit with sways can't fix. Add up a fully loaded veloster is 26k. Its a value. As for negative comments about matte paint. To each his own... But hyundai SOLELY responded to an enthusiast trend that's been growing in the aftermarket tremendously over the last 5 years. And their refreshes are viable on other models... For those who don't like it can choose from a palette of seriously sporty metallic and pearl colors. They addressed the missing link DD that can be fun to modify without going over 27k. A fully loaded GTI is 35k. A golf R 38k. This gives fun while keeping costs down. The mazda 3 is another option but I bet hyundai insurance will probably save you a few hundred bucks a year, not to mention an extra 10+mpg's.

The veloster palette should probably belong to a genny. Maybe one day they'll make a veloster X awd??? That would be sick.

As for the matte paint, tons of people with dual exhausts want to go to single, and vice versa, think of it as a manufacturer offering something you'd like to do to a car right off the bat, as silly as it might seem to others.

I'm dying to see the aftermarket for these cars, and not just for curiosity's sake. The old lady is trading in her G6 next year and this is exactly the type of car I'm looking to saddle her with.

There are ways that you can protect the finish, but it’s not the same as you would for a glossy finish like on a regular car. A company in Switzerland that makes the world’s finest automotive car care products makes a line of products specifically for matte and satin paint finishes. As a fair warning, their stuff isn’t cheap. The quick detailer spray for the Matte finishes runs nearly $40 a for 250ml bottle. Matte paint tends to “soak up” a certain amount of moisture that’s applied to it, so water spots, bird droppings, and other grime may “stain” the finish until you properly remove them by applying the appropriate cleaning agent. And you can make it shiney by washing it wrong and bu simply rubbing it a little.... Just a fair warning. I love the look, but I dont know if I could DD it. Alot of people dont really know the care that goes into a car with matte paint.

Matte finishes are unusual for a car priced in the low 20′s, a price point where the typical customer might not be as experienced at car care.

First of all, forget about using wax, detail spray, ArmorAll or almost any run-of-the-mill products. Everything needs to be matte paint safe, including the cloth you use. Nothing abrasive can come into play like polishes or glazes and above all, remember that commercial car washes are strictly off limits.

Use an alcohol-based window cleaner, or even just a 50/50 mix of alcohol and deionized water to spot clean pesky bug guts (a matte paint cleaner works too). Spray the spot and wet your microfiber cloth then let the spot soak so it softens. Don’t skip soaking the cloth, using it dry will damage the finish irreparably and it’s going to leave shiny spots that look horribly obvious. Hyundai also suggests saturating a cloth with tar remover and laying it over any stuck-on debris for five minutes to ensure safe removal.

Giving the car a full body wash isn’t really all that different from a normal car, but most people probably don’t know the proper procedure because gas station car washes are a lot faster and easier.

Wash your car in the shade with two buckets of water, one with soap and the other with clean water. Because matte paint is so sensitive, it’s especially important to put a grit guard in your soap pale. It’s just a gridded plastic piece that lets abrasive dirt settle and stay in the bucket rather than riding on your sponge.

Once this is all in place, pre-rinse your car, preferably with a fan-tipped pressure washer under 2,500 psi. Gently wash the car in small sections from the bottom up, using a back and forth motion. Rubbing in circles will leave swirls that look terrible in direct light. Once that’s done, rinse the car, dry it with a damp chamois and repeat if needed.

Finally, use a matte-safe finish like Swisswax Opaque Matte Paint Wax to discourage road muck from sticking to your car, just make sure it’s specifically made for matte paint.

It’s worth noting that matte paint is probably a poor choice if you’re planning to use the Veloster as a daily driver. It looks cool, but unless you have a garage and the time to spot clean and hand wash on a regular basis, it’s going to be a short-lived fairy tale with a sad ending.

All of these comments are true about matte paint. However, as a gear head and OCD 370 owner, I am more than capable of cleaning the car in my personal detailing garage.

The steps are simple:

DON'T:
- use a carwash
- rub the paint too vigoursly
- use commercial car care products for glossy paints
- let crap sit on the paint for long periods of time
- use polish or regular sealants

DO:
- use a matte paint car care kit (one comes with the car)
- seal the paint properly
- buy products designed strictly for matte paint (Dr. Beasly's, SwissVax, Chemical Guys)
- use alcohol based window cleaner for spot cleaning in a pinch
- use a clearbra designed for matte paint
- wash the car regularly

I am well aware of the extra care of looking after a matte paint job and I think most of us 370 owners are already qualified paint care specialists! My wife knows the rules and drives the car like normal. She knows that I will look after it's paint and cleaning like I do all our other cars.

Bottom line is simple: If you love cars and like to look after them, this is actually less work than a standard paint job! No waxing, polishing and glazing! Just wash, rinse and seal!

And by the way, the paint looks stunning in person and feels like satin to the touch. It cleans easily and looks flawless from every angle. No line, marks or swirls anywhere and I have done nothing to it so far other than a rinse and dry after peeling off all that vinyl and crap! Can't wait for the cleaning kit to arrive so I can give it a proper detail!

My Z is 90% handwashed, polished, clay barred and waxed by me... Its a process to maintain your paint even if its not matte.
Wash and quick wax every 5 days
Detailer for afternoon dust.
Clean rims and tires... add tire shine weekly.
Clay bar wax and polish every 3 months.
Use meguiars waterless wash&wax for dirt in between water washes.
Underbody wash with power washer every 2 weeks.

By appearance, it seems some colors of the velo have all other hyundai models beat. I think its there next gen paint on the velo first... Just my intuition.

What are you going to do about protecting from chips? I dont think using a clear 3m will work to cover the car since that would be counter productive to the matte look? Do they make matte clear to lay over it? I know here in seattle the stupid dump trucks carrying gravel dont have to cover their loads and when I inadvertanly get behind I put my hand out the window and it feels like a dust storm. I have the whole front wrapped due to that. My GF's scion tc looks like it was shot at with an airsoft gun on the front. I was damn sure that was not going to happen to the Z so I had to get it done. Just curious of there is an option available?

I'm looking into it. I have heard there is a matte paint film protector but I have not heard any reviews...
