Wow, heck of a post. I wouldn't exactly call a brand new, mid-$20k range Veloster turbo a "throw away, cheap beater", but to each their own.

So Wheeel, you had all weekend to drive it??? PUT us on... lol :driving:

What are your performance likes and dislikes thus far? I know you can't really whip it yet but I'm sure you have had a chance to hit a few corners, soak up a few bumps and make a few traffic passes. :tiphat:

So far I am impressed with the Zippiness of the car.... I have been a passenger more than a driver as of late because the wife is the principal driver of this car. Surprisingly, it feels better as a passenger than a driver. Maybe because I am expecting it to react like the Z and instead, I can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Handling is firm but forgiving, small amount of body lean in corners. The acceleration is smooth and torquey. Visibility is surprisingly good considering the design, but then again the Z is terrible! Road noise is low and the engine and exhaust note are almost imperceptible... wife loves that, I hate it!
I would give the car an 8 out of 10 for cars in it's class. Loses a point for exhaust note and engine noise (lack of), and loses a point for no automatic temperature control (my other cars have that and I miss it in this one).

Let us know when you gonna pump up the PSI on the turbo and see how far it could go =P

:icon18: My wife would kill me! I bought the Z for her, then I modded it, then I had to buy her a car again cuz the Z is mine now...

a smart man knows when to stop.....

lol... it started with the Lincoln MKx. I bought that for her in 2008. She didn't want to park it at the train station, so I drove it! Then I got back from Afghanistan in 09 and bought her the Z... but that was no good for winter so she took the Lincoln back and I drove the beater car (96 Contour). Finally the Contour has died an ignoble death so I bought the Veloster last week for the wife as an all year sporty fun car to replace the "stolen" 370Z that I now drive occasionally. The rest of the time I drive the Lincoln again. One of these days I might buy myself a car!....

and buy the way, it's the spec pay,not the rank that counts.... Still pays more than a level four Sgt!

ooooooo..... can I have one too? They might be reducing PLD and LDA as well so I could use a little PTSD payout, lol

Gentex Homelink auto dimming mirror goes in Saturday! Last "official" mod I think... the wife will kill me if I start looking at aftermarket BOV's etc! :)

Pardon the stolen google image (but I liked the 350 in the background!)

Mirror's in, tint's done.... just waiting on Hyundai to ship the turbo version mudflaps and I think that's it for now!

Beautiful looking car, love that paint!

wheee! 12-28-2012 10:18 AM

Mudflaps came in. Not really sure if they qualify as mudflaps seeing as the are about the size of a slice of toast! :icon17:

car is driving great in the winter too! Not too bad for a FWD turbo with all seasons!

Looks like KIA is going to make a Cain to the Veloster (Abel) with the Kia Proceed. Looks like KIA is going hard with modern aggressive style, turbo engine and RECARO seats.

On another note... Kia Forte refresh looks better than the current Honda Civic. It may not handle as well... YET? But it's FWD and they are moving faster at better fwd cars than rwd. i like.
