Oddball BMW question

I have been offered a (2003 I think) M3 E46 for six months. My buddy lost his liscense. I'd pay insurance registration I suppose, etc. It is a car known to all police in the area. I do not need another car but what an interesting offer. I'd need to put it somewhere too.

Question: Should I accept?

I would but then again I have been in love with the E46 m3 for years

If I were in your shoes, I'd test drive it for a week and then see if I need to haul around more than 1 person in a day to day basis. If benefits outweigh the negative, hell yes! I always wanted to see how the M3 rides anyways.

I don't see why not, unless the insurance rapes you.

Sounds like a waste to me. You’re in other words renting the car for 6 months. Not only paying for gas but also paying for insurance and registration…..I’m good. If you plan on getting it from what I read my understanding is that you would have to give it back when he gets his license back (6months). Your friend is better off having it sit and not putting any miles on it and respecting it more when he gets his license back. For whatever reason it maybe for having it taken away in the first place. Also what comes to mind is that it’s an 03 so I’m guessing there are miles put on that car so what if something where to fail would that be coming out of pocket?

I thought registrations were for one year? Unless your buddy plans on giving you half the money back for that once he gets his license back.

Honestly, I'd pass. Personally, I'd just let the car sit wherever it is now for 6 months unregistered (hopefully in his garage, backyard, wherever) and mod the crap out of it in that time frame. Once he gets his license back, he can register it and drive it again.

^ The above.

If money is no issue it might be worth it (but then you'll become an M3 convert!) just to have a different car (one that also has 4 seats, unless it's the coupe, but at least the backseats are partially functional).

only if he titles it over. :)

E46s are fun. could be enjoyable

I wouldn't think twice if it's Laguna Seca Blue (all time fav color).

Sounds like a lot of work & money to drive a car slower then the one you own!

It would be nice if you just had to pay for the gas you put into it and maintenance costs..Its an 03 so insurance probably wont be as much as the Z, but its a coupe so you never know.

If it costs more than a thousand bucks for 6 months, then i wouldnt do it.

Correct. I would give it up after six months. It has fewer than 50,000 miles.

RE: What if something where to fail would that be coming out of pocket? A question I have contemplated. This needs to be worked out.

RE: Your friend is better off having it sit and not putting any miles on it and respecting it more when he gets his license back. His brothers and sisters all want it. They are all irresponsible nightmares. And sad as this may be, I am the most responsible person in his orbit. I will pay insurance and make it legal or I won't drive it. Novel for him.

RE: For whatever reason it maybe for having it taken away in the first place. Driving on a suspended license. Irresponsibility runs in the family.

All of the above. I can not say that M3's have alway been my dream car. I can not help but give them their due respect, which is awesome!

just tell him you will hold on to it for 6 months but dont drive it and dont register it and dont add it to insurance
if he doesnt want his brothers and sisters to drive it than he will let you do that

it isnt worth it if you have to pay registration for it, pay for insurance, and pay for gas

if he registered it and insured it and all you had to do was pay for gas than i would go for the deal but this isnt the case so i wouldnt even bother with it
