Default Second car - DD

Hi all! I am looking for a second car for DD... Traffic really sucks going to work and we travel often to Chicago frm Indianapolis (3.5 hour drive). Additionally we are going to have a kid here in a year or too so I am looking for a second car.

The wife has an IS250 AWD now, back seat is worthless.. My Z.. No comments.. So I am thinking of getting, I have a very weird selection, a STI hatch or a VW touareg (new body style).

If you were in my situation, which one would you pick?

All inputs are appreciated!!!

Buy which ever one is more practical, less expensive to maintain and fuel efficient. I leased a Honda Civic to do a majority of my dd work travel. It gets around 40mpg on the highway if you're frugal with the gas and takes regular. I spend about half of what I would driving the Z and great for hauling stuff and people around. I also don't have to really worry about it in parking lots and wear & tear on the Z. Kinda weird, but the lackluster performance of the Civic actually makes me appreciate the Z even more. I guess my advice is to get something reliable and boring...leave all the fun stuff for the Z.

get touareg.
SUVs are always safer and it's quite nice too.

SUV is nice. But my only complaint is the gas milage. If you cool with MPG, go for the suv.

Saying that SUVs are just safer is the same logic that soccer moms use when they crash into other people. It just doesn't make sense.

Friend of mine has a neighbor with a spec miata and an RX7. Uses his W12 touareg to haul everything. sounds good to me.

What about Lexus CT200H? I think it is a good car. I would love to try it. however, if you are looking for SUV, I would say for Porche Cayenne.

Yeah, if your about to have a family, I would get a small suv or bigger car at the least. The z isn't really the most family oriented car but I think that's the point haha. Post up what you end up getting.

Having raised 3 kids, not any of the two you mentioned would cut it. I would have out grown the STi and think the Toureg although has good size is just not reliable. I feared breaking down with my family. I would not want to be with my kids when it breaks down. My suggestion is Ford Edge or Flex. Flex Turbo hauls a55.
