Now the old V-6...that was a joke.

Congrats on the trade. Realistically the GT has more than enough power. Enjoy your new toy and all that torque. Please post pics when it comes in.

How does your v6 stang do?

All kidding aside, the v6 stang is very quick and great on gas. Test drive a gt and it might spoil you tho.

No, 50/50 weight distribution will plow on entrance over a mid or rear engine car all things being equal. Neutral feel yes, fast no.

And yes it is a marketing ploy. If I recall correctly, the Z is more like 54/46? Maybe 2 passenger will drop it to 53/47, but do you want to drive with two people all the time?

Pretty much. My 370Z is NOT what I expected when pushed hard. I didn't push it like that on a test-drive, or I honestly may have bought something else. That is a serious downside to the car. It is crap in a corner.

Why?

Lets say you enter the corner lightly on the brakes...well, then you balance on the throttle...but wait...you have to be ACCELERATING to balance...longer the corner...faster you go...constant radius corner...you do the math. Tire adhesion has a limit...so now you have a decision: Get off the throttle and toss the rear-end out, or stay on the throttle and have the front end push you off the road. Screw that. I'll take the 50/50 of my Z06 back in a heartbeat. Get off the throttle gently and just let the car settle back down. The 370Z is a thinkers car. You have to know the corner intimately and treat it "just so", or the car will bit you in the ***. The 50/50 cars are more simple. You can do what you please, and if it's the wrong thing, let the car correct it and remain calm, no big deal. Just be smooth, "listen" to the car, and let it fix any problems you run into. The 370Z, it's like a bitch girlfriend seething all the time, and if you push the wrong buttons, it will go nuclear on you and you can't stop it. There is no warning that comes in time, and it won't stop until it hits something, and it is highly UN-likely that you will talk it down, no-matter how gently you caress it.

This is just my opinion, having a properly engineered car, and now owning a 370Z, regarding weight distribution. Deal-breaker? No. I am keeping my 370. It is, however, a huge disappointment.

I weighed my Z and it is 54/46, IIRC.

50/50 only plows if you don't enter lightly on the brakes. What it DOES allow is more OPTIONS further into the corner. I never had any trouble with the 'vette. If you get some feed-back from the front-end...you correct it. You will NEVER get into trouble unless you do something stupid, or start poorly. With the 370Z, you can start perfect, and get to a "point of no return" very easily if you aren't thinking about things 3-steps ahead of yourself, as I detailed above.

Your Corvette came with better tires (285F if I recall), that's why it turned. The weight distribution plays a role in how a car handles, not the only factor. Stick a set of sticky front tires and it will change the way your car feels. Rear weight distribution is always favorable for fast lap times, there is a reason why most racing series have engines in the back. It helps braking, turn in and acceleration. Is it the easiest to drive? Of course not.

Oh yeah don't listen to the BS Nissan gives you about weight distribution, they just can't do it for various reasons and it is there for marketing and fanboys. It's just a compromise in order to get the car to hit the $30K mark while being able to compete with cars 10-20K more.

Never once in my 370z did I leave a turn full throttle and think "This could get out of hand", and when the tail wiggles a little bit it's a playful wiggle not a slap.

In the GT500, when I leave a turn and mash it, my brain has 1/3000ths of a second to decide whether I should back off or if I'll be ok, and while I'm sure I could go 3/4 throttle out of a turn, where is the fun in that? It's more fun to go all out. That's why my 2nd car (See: GF's trade-up, See Also: not getting rid of the GT500) will be something very similar to the Z. The Z's motor is a little raucous for me after driving some alternatives. Definitely a weekend car.

So there's no scientific reason for 53/47? They made it up for marketing reasons?

Nope, they can do more to shift the weight back if they truly want to, but I doubt they will be able to do it for $30K
