tach works, then stops on my 96 300zx tt
 

I have a 2012 370z roadster, all the bells and whistles, nav, sport pkg, even have a spoiler, great car, fun to drive. I also have a 96 300zx tt that I am working on, it was totaled, has a rebuilt title, runs and looks great. the interior is all new, I installed chrome bezels around my gauges, what a bitch of a job for a 66 year old with artheritis in his hands. To make a long story short, I tested all the gauges before I buttoned it all back up, everything worked fine. Two days later, my tach stopped working, some times it would shoot up to 5500 rpm, then just drop back down. yesterday it worked great, no issues, today, nothing????I have very little knowledge about cars, I just love them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you double checked the power or ground?

John at z1, what is pm? and how do you do it? also, you know me, i purchased the bezels and a few thousand dollars more from z1, still waiting for my exhaust to come in. I imagine you have an answer because you know i don't know anything about this stuff.

I am really old, I don't understand pm. I know John @ z1, I bought the bezels from him.

By the way, my bose radio works exactly like my tach, works great, then stops, then it comes on and scares the crap out of me. Again, i love cars but I do not know anything about them. My father was a master mechanic and he told me countless times, if he ever caught me with a wrench in my hand he would hit me in the head with it. Those where the days that you believed everything your parents said, my old man did not make idle threats!!!

?????It is not any fun having a love affair with cars since 7th grade but not understanding much about how they work. How would one go about checking that ground??

I don't work for Z1, sorry. I just know they are experts in the 300ZX.

Under that is a link for private messages. click on that, and then on the left once you get there, click 'send new message' and in the to box, write john@z1. or just call them tomorrow if thats easier. Also, twinturbo.net might be a better place to ask, as everyone here has 370z's.

Wish I had an answer for you better than that though. If you want your brakes powdercoated and pretty, I can help you there, but thats my knowledge of the Z32.
