I would go with the GT3 just for the manual transmission and the experience of the drive and it as a balanced car. It's my dream car.
I would do the GTR if I wanted to try and beat people left and right...dang that makes me want to get one now hahahaha. Really thinking about it makes it a tie. How about get the GT3 first since it won't depreciate much then when you are ready, sell the GT3 and get yourself a GTR!!!!

It will be demanding to drive, but so rewarding. The exhaust sound is incredible. Which color do you like for a 911 ? Last edited by bigsix; 07-29-2012 at 04:38 PM. Reason: expand |

yeah on the GTR you cannot get the clutch replaced at the dealership anything that goes wrong from the transmission and rear diff area down to a $1 clip the entire transaxle is replaced..but they have been really good about warranty lately so for the first 5 years 60K miles thats not an issue maintenance overall honestly isnt bad for the GTR thats one big myth about the car.. ive had a GTR since july of 2008 and besides tires it hasnt cost me much more than the Z's i had before that.. the big fluid changes everyone is scared of comes only every 36K miles if the fluids routinely stay under 248 degrees and even then the fluids can be purchased online for about $500.. if your smart you can have a lot of fun in the car and not cross those temp thresholds .especially on 2012+ cars with the added cooling the newer GTRs have a panel that can be removed for oil changes so the front lip doesnt have to come off.. so the labor at a dealer should be about a half hour tops and you can get the oil at walmart for $35. so oil changes are cheap aswell i do a couple track days a year and about 10 autocrosses and have never even needed brake pads yet. the rotors will take a couple of pad changes before they need to be replaced so unless your a track junkie thats a non issue aswell but yeah tires are a killer if you do anything more than commute in it.. the fronts last 4-5K with anytype of performance driving and run over 2500 for a set of 4.. luckily i was able to get 6 sets from Nissan this year Last edited by MC; 07-29-2012 at 07:05 PM. |

When you buy a GT3, just be careful of the radiators. They are known to crack and break, my friend is on #3 at 25K miles. I actually broke his first one at 400 miles when my 350 on slick shot a rock into his radiator....
Also the GT3 transmission isn't that great in my opinion. It feels extremely tight and clunky, the throw is extremely long too. Think FWD Hondas with super tight gates. The car does sound awesome. This is sound recorded from the helmet cam. If it is that loud inside the car, think how noisy it is outside. I also only hit 7800RPM or so, imagine what it sounds like at 8400!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjc2pZflaz8 I don't recall what hte GTR sounds like inside, it's been 3 years since i last drove one. MC,
With your avatar picture you remind me of the STIG's Darker side!!!! I like the outfit Man. Black all the way! I wish I can afford the 2012 GTR now. I know its gonna smoke the GT3 all day long from dusk till dawn. IMHO. |

i've driven both. if it were my money, i'd be hard pressed not to get the GT3. it kinda depends on what you want it for, and what you are willing (or not willing) to accept in the way of creature comforts, or lack thereof

Boring isn't the right word for sure, but I felt the first time both when I rode in one and drove one through the canyons that it was a tad underwhelming because the car was so composed and sure footed. It is brutally effective though, I have huge respect for it's performance and it sure got my blood pumping!
But it doesn't have as much driving pleasure as a GT3 IMHO. There is a feel of precision and communication that the GTR cannot match. So the choice depends on priorities! All out performance or a tradeoff to driving feel and slightly less performance.

If its an R32 GTR, then GTR. Otherwise GT3, without a doubt.
