Pontiac G8

Just wanted to know if anyone from the US has a Pontiac G8 or been in one?

As it's an Aussie car, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it as our car company Holden has announced it will stop exporting them to America due to the GM failure. It's a pity as they were selling really well.

It's not really my kind of car, but some of my mates have them and it always puts a smile on my face when we go for a drive. :)

Here's the new local version with 470kW (640Hp) ;)

The supercharger sounds awesome!

as a fellow pontiac owner.. i know i know lol.. the g8 is in another class.. holdens are underrated as far as i'm concerned.. they offer plenty of power given they may not ibe n the most desirable chasis situation.. they don't give you the handling one would want.. but its an american car, in the end what do you want?.. driven one and as far as i'm concerned they are decent.. given it was only a GT and not a GXP.. its a fun car as long as your not trying to take it through twistys

Mental Block 06-20-2009 01:49 PM

I've heard some good things about the GXP's handling and performance. A lot see the styling as ugly, but I personally love the way it looks; it's really what the GTO should have been IMO.

I went to the dealer to review their GXP a few weeks ago. They were treating this thing like gold. Not only were they charging 5K over, but they wouldn't let me test drive it.
I asked how I was supposed to know if I liked the car if I couldn't drive it, the response was "people who want this car don't need to drive it, they just know."
When I asked how the justified the $5K markup in this market, they said it was going to be a collector's item. I said "Dude, you're going out of business, all your pontiac cars are about to be 'collector's items'" and walked off.
Good way to stay in business GM.

Edit:
Forgot to answer the question. It was nice compared to other GM vehicles. Very similar to my 06 GTO. Not the nicest, just nice for a GM.

LOL... Treating it like what...? Gold?!
I see G8's but never been in one.
Sounds good though but I don't know why the would mark up prices and such...
Now I would understand if it were the GTR or a GT3 but definetly not a G8...
370z > G8

370z > G8

The GXP is the one they are guarding, not the plain old G8. GXP is way over priced compared to the old GTO, don't see how adding an extra $5K to the price is going to help it sell.

It won't. People who can afford $40K cars aren't retarded.

nogoodname 06-20-2009 08:56 PM

don't diss Pontiac...lol

me still like them...ok

frost 06-20-2009 08:58 PM

It's not pontiac, the car is fine. It's the dealerships who think god gave birth to them I have an issue with.

nogoodname 06-20-2009 09:08 PM

i feel like visiting dealerships to see what all the fuss is about....lol
and so i can shut them out before they try to do that on me

I want to test drive the cadillac cts supercharged!

The G8 is a good looking car but unfortunately I think it suffers from a lack of refinement in the interior.

Looks badass from the front, but it looks like they hurried the design of the rear end... very plain.

Mergnthwirker 06-21-2009 06:20 PM

:iagree: Dropped by a couple of weeks ago to check out the G8. I was very disappointed in the build quality. Lovely looking car, and nice V8 with a stick (rare these days). Doesn't help that all the sales guys were expecting to be laid off soon. They were all very keen on checking out my new Z. They told me they thought the "new" GM was going to continue to offer the Holden/nee G8 under another name. Or maybe Penske will grab it an make it a Saturn? Great to see a full-sized American car with balls that can handle too.

GTRFAN 06-22-2009 06:07 AM

Yeah I agree about the interior...it's a bit cheap, but after all this whole car is a mass produced family car with a few bolt on bits. We even use the base model as a taxi. :)

Holden have made a two door concept which may make it to production...

I think it's pretty fugly. Pontiac hasn't released a good looking car since the Fiero, and before that the Firebirds of the mid 70s (which will be a restoration project of mine one day). This is probably why Pontiac is getting dumped, although I would drop Buick before Pontiac. The average age of a Buick buyer is 67 years old. Their customer base will be dead before you know it, and those buyers can just try and come up with the couple thousand extra to buy a Cadillac.

Yeah, a 1970-73 Ponitac Trans Am looked cool in their day. My parants owned one and I drove it to death. Nice interior; way ahead for its times. Exterior looked sleek. Handling was sub-par by today's standards; and other than a Stage IV version (very rare) would be slower than a 370Z. A good restoration car with upgraded suspension/brakes/engine should be fast and fun to drive. Today Buick's are big sellers in China.

I know this has been posted long ago but just a heads up. As far as i know this has been featured in a popular auto show in chicago and according to many this has been based from the Commodore but has been modified due to the public demand. But for me, this is such one of a kind compared to other pontiacs out there.
