Thats a bit rediculous. No kid should be operating a vehicle capable of 200ish mph. Thats crazy. Look, i know there are responsible kids out there, but giving a kid this for his first daily driver vehicle...are you fuggin kidding me? I'm all for the kid getting a really nice car, as a parent i wish i could drop coin like that on my kid and not flinch, but damn. Get him a Beamer, or a 370z, a lexus. Let the kid learn to drive first. A 640hp, 200mph car at 16yrs old? REALLY?!!! He doesn't even know the basics, hydroplaning, driving in heavy rain, snow, monitoring your mirrors at all times, the instinct of knowing what another driver MIGHT do before he does it, etc. etc. etc.
I think it would be retarded personally. Not my kid though... |

If I was rich and had a kid I'd buy him a GT500 for his 16th birthday. I'd get a pulley for it so it's making 700whp.
Then I'd slap the valet tune on it and give the keys to him.

Such a good idea. But you would care about your kid. That is the difference.

I'd also not be as reluctant to buy a shelby for a kid if the United States had more thorough and challenging driving tests. Teaching a kid a 3-pt turn is important, but the Finnish teach them to flick and hydroplane.

GT500 limited to 2,500 rpm.
Still plenty of power for street driving, but not enough to allow him to race or show off. Trollololol Get good grades and I'll give ya an extra 500rpm, Billy!

Maybe the parents don't like the kid too much.. In which case all they need to do is hand him the keys and show him how to turn the traction control off

I could care less about what happens to him. Being a family man, it's the folks like me on the road who are now in danger of him losing control at any given moment and potentially having their lives ruined because some kid (or more to the point, the kid's parents) has more money than common sense. Someone already mentioned that there's the possibility the kid will drive conservatively and won't necessarily be a maniac on the streets, but based on the info we got from MtTam, I'm not gonna hold my breath. Fingers crossed this whole saga doesn't end in tears.
