For sure! Not many cars I'd take over the Viper

I saw it at the nyc autoshow...Both the production and GTSR

I do find it funny that the race car uses paddles but it only comes in a manual because a manual is 'quicker'

TerribleONE 06-20-2012 07:32 PM

Isamu 06-20-2012 07:33 PM

I think I read they stuck to a manual out of tradition more than anything.

Manual isn't quicker in most performance cars these days, but I'll still only buy manual, because for me, it's much more fun to drive. Who said manual is quicker? Where? Why? When?

HKYStormFront 06-20-2012 08:08 PM

i think SRT is really doing this one right, like porsche does, by starting with the GTS-R and then scaling it back to turn it into a road car. in my experience... that's the best way to go about making a new performance car

Auto can most assuradly be faster... look at the 7AT

I agree tho, driving a manual is way more fun...

AT's have only gotten faster in the past few years once they started giving them equal numbers of gears (or more) to the manuals and matching the axle ratios. they have also improved the power loss from the transmission itself as well as made them shift faster and smoother than ever. up until about 10 years ago (maybe less), just about every car that was offered in both manual and auto, the manual was faster in both 0-60 times and 1/4 mile. now that's not as true.

the viper is a manual only for the same reason that the Z06 (at least for now) is only a manual. it's about saving weight and catering to the majority of customers. the race car is exactly that so it gets the fastest, strongest transmission you can get in it

Just to be correct most of high end cars don't have traditional automatic transmissions. They have automated dual clutch systems. More of an automated manual tranny. Yeah machines shift faster than people!
