It was definitely in one of the car magazines that both the next generation Mustang and Camaro will be losing significant weight.

I've learned to take those with a grain of salt, personally.

Ford itself did say that all new models will be at least 250lbs lighter than the model they replace, so we can take it on good authority that the Mustangs will be getting lighter.

All car manufactures are saying they are going smaller and lighter. Many say V8s will be replaced with turbo 6s and turbo 4s. You can see where money is being spent in engine platforms it's not as much with V8 any more.

Porsche downsized their displacement in all their cars for first time in over a decade this model year. Hearing corvette will be downsized as well.

Already seeing the trend emerge. I think we are seeing last of the true Muscle cars these next few years.

I wonder if that will bring the value of 08-13 M3's up.

As for the whole "next year X car will beat Y car," sometimes I feel the internet is the only place people feel pressured to prove their car because if I run into a ZL1 on the highway even for a brief minute and am able to do anything over than look at it from traffic I'd be surprised.

And then you have your "well if I put X on my car it will beat Y car"... but then it's "yea but you spent X amount I only spent Y", and then it's "Yea but mine is better in X department than yours is", "Yea well Y department is all that matters."

When I'm driving my car, the last thing I'm thinking about is a Camaro or what Edmund's comparable cars are. It's not until I run into threads like these that I even remember there was a rivalry. And if I DID run into a ZL1, you'd have to pry the thumbs up away from my window.

Of course the bowtie is better. Who wants to be in such a rush when you're at a race track? Take your time, take in the sights iirc afaik imho qed

I think they were saying that the ZL-1 was putting out more consistently fast laps, which is why it would be the better track car. I know its like kicking a dead horse, but the 'stang would be so much more of a complete package if it wasn't for the solid rear axle. With a 98 hp more power and the weight advantage, it should be detroying the Camaro by more than 0.65 seconds. They are both great cars, but the way it has been described, it seems that Chevy (via Holden) has the 'better' chassis, for now.

GT500 needs more tire and gearing better suited to road racing. The GT500's rears are the width of the ZL1s fronts!

Fjord has always under-tired the Mustang. The Brembo 5.0s should have come with a 275 square setup. GT500 should have at least 285/305.
