On top of that, the car isn't responding to bolt-ons very well. We partnered with Agency Power to develop an intake, exhaust, and some other bolt-ons. We made pretty good power with the exhaust or the intake, but together the result wasn't cumulative. It was like the ECU said "3+3=4". Also, the OEM clutch felt pretty lame. We partnered with Clutch Masters and they developed a new clutch for us, which is much better.

Also forgot... The car dipped below 500rpm at idle on me. It was really disconcerting, like the car was going to stall at stop signs. Has anyone else experienced this, or was I just test driving a dog?

I'm sure the BRZ platform could be an easy candidate for an STi swap, although it does bring about the problem of emissions testing. Lightweight, plenty of space in the engine bay, and updated styling really lends an air of fresh, modern design.

Also, I'm sure someone is just gonna swap out the entire interior or something... the inside of the BRZ/FRS (FRS especially) reminded me of the interior of the 350Z... made the price tag seem too high for such an unrefined, cheap, almost thrown-together interior.

A guy down the block bought one in firestorm red. The profile is beautiful, front aggressive, rear looks unfinished and I agree the wheels just look weak as hell.... it does need FI considering we come from a v6. And people can pull the handling card all they want. Our cars still get 1g of grip in the mid 70'smph range. Our automatics are getting to 60 from 0 in about 4.8 seconds and 4.4 with a foot of rollot. Our manuals are .3 seconds slower. Quarter times are ranging 12.9 to 13.1 seconds stock with a broken in engine and a good set of rubber. I will pass on 15+second quarter times for a nimble feel. My Z feels plenty nimble without the car feeling like its going to fly away and not so fat and heavy that it feels like a boat. I think the Z is perfect. For its current power. I would like it to lose 200lbs. Other than that I think its perfect in its function.

That said. I'm going to test drive a FRS today. I am curious as well as I want to follow the build up to the turbo model. I have my eye on this car and with a turbo engine pushing this thing.

It's a nice try by Toyota and Subi. Once all the fanboi hype dies off this is just an above average offering with RWD.

I agree with others that Japanese car companies tend to flock to similar competitive offerings so lets hope we see a small Nissan with 1.6 turbo soon.

Mazda announced long ago it was revamping MX5 platform so we should see something from them too.

Too bad they will all be ladies and small men's cars. Us over 6'3" foot dudes don't fit well in most of these small Japanese sports cars.

To give it credit, I'm not tall, but the FR-S held a fatty like me pretty well.

For some reason this is really common on subarus for the first couple hundred miles. My wrx did it too...I think it has to do with a relatively slow leaning ecu for idle parameters.

Mine did it literally twice. Once was about 3 days after purchase, and the other time the temperature had dropped something like 50* overnight.

Both times it just did a quick blip below 500 rpms, but then caught and went back to a normal idle. Nothing bad happened, but kinda scary.

I've put 19,000 miles on the car since the last time it happened, though, and it has been good since.

Of course, it could also just be bad gas or whatever

Chevy is already working on a car in this market, check out the 130R and 140S, it looks interesting, so far.
