One word, WOW! (2014 Porsche 918 Spyder)

wow indeed :yum:

Absolutely one of the most beautiful cars ever built -- that it's blindingly fast and green is amazing.
Really astonishing -- awesome! What kind of trans and how many gears? |
Just the $845K to own one, then. Guess I should start saving my pennies...
Design, tech, (predicted) performance, all awesome. I'm looking forward to reading (as that's as close as I'm gonna get to one) about how the 918 stacks up to the other hypercars out there. S. |
Eh... I feel you still can't beat the sound of the Carrera GT, 10 cylinder with straight pipes. :excited:
This car is almost double what the GT was... because it's greener? It also makes less power and if they stopped production of the GT because of not selling, why would they want to come out with a "replica" for that much money? The car is beautiful, but I really think this is more of a "because we can" type of vehicle then anything. |
Personally I still think the Z is superior in many ways. Except maybe the exhaust placement.

Kinda looks like a viper from the rear

I would rather a second hand Carrera GT for 400k. That for 845k, I would have to have a lot of extra cash laying around cause that really isn't worth it in today's market.

It makes the Lexus LFA seems pretty cheap, now...
That really looks amazing from all angles . . . can't wait to see one driving. Today, I saw a white SLS AMG and white Ferrari FF driving. It's still a little hard to wrap my head around a hybrid supercar like this Porsche. Will most cars in the future be hybrid gas/electric or use more fuel efficient and/or Diesel engines ? ? ? |
wtf! 700 hp! this thing looks light too, which means hp to wt ratio is sick!
52 secs into video...500 hp and you hit a button and get an extra 200 hp |

You'll see more and more go the electric route. Diesel has been out for a long time and it is more so economical, burns cleaner, but it's not very easy to come across nowadays. Only a select number of gas stations still carry it. The Hybrid option is one of the best inventions in my opinion. You get the best of both worlds, especially if it's a vehicle that you have to charge. It still causes a certain degree of pollution because of a combustion based motor along with the fact it uses batteries. I think you're going to see more Hydrogen based vehicles in the next 10 years to come though. |

Electricity is not green: don't be a lemming in america into thinking so. Our renewable energy as a % of total generation is still small (IIRC about 15%). No nukes have been built in years. It has to come from somewhere, and the bulk of it is non-renewable. Super cars with hybrids are a way for these companies to also get around MPG regulations as they become stiffer. The ability to produce something that can get say 30 MPG in a hybrid mode but still have 500+ HP to feed into the egos of those with the wallets to buy these cars makes it possible. Petrol is not going anywhere folks...though the price is going up :) I like hybrid drive trains that have start/stop and the ability to regenerate, but our infrastructure cannot handle the electric load as it is during peak utilization. Having plugin hybrids would stress it even further without significant capacity improvements (such as...more nukes). I do wish our choice of Diesel powertrains in the US was that of the EU. That won't happen until we have 8-10/gal fuel. Not that I wish that...but its the reality of our economy and how most americans choose to drive. I'd love to replace the WRX wagon with a A4 TDI Avant someday. :D - b |
