Own both (actually the camaro is my girlfriends). The Camaro is a 2010 2SS 6-speed. My Z is a 2010 Nismo with FI exhaust. Not sure how the Camaro stacks up against the 5.0 other than what magazines show; which is that the mustang is faster and corners better. Compared to the Z the Camaro is far easier to launch and in the lower gears or speeds has much more punch. Due to the Z's lack of traction and excessive wheel hop I would say in a street race the Camaro would win. Magazines back this up showing that track times are faster at 12.9 for the Camaro vs. 13.1 or slower for the Z. However from a roll at hwy speeds I would honestly put money on the Z. For some reason down shifting into 3rd in the Camaro doesn't yeild the same jump that the Z does. When I drop into 3rd in my Z it just screams and goes. The Camaro it's almost like it's running out of air. It's weird because if lets say you drop it into 2nd going 30mph the Camaro jumps forward like crazy with torque while the Z feels like it's not in the same league.
I've yet to race a 5.0 in either of my cars and I've yet to race my 370z against the Camaro (except in auto-x). So hard to say. I know that on a closed course at 70mph rolling start my Z hung with a GTO. Now in the corners it's no contest. The camaro does well, much better than previous generations but you feel it's weight. Honestly for daily driving and spirited runs the Camaro's handling is more than adequet. For anything more than that the suspension needs work. You can definetly feel the weight fighting you. The on ramp I usually take to work which is one of those circular ones that warps you up onto the fwy can be ran in my 370z at about 45-47mph. In the Camaro I can only do about 40mph. In comparison my 77 280z can pull the same 45mph. I could probably pull slightly more out of the 370z but don't want to risk the *** sliding out and causing a wreck. The camaro is a fun car but the Mustang is just the better car in every category. Would love to run against a 5.0 one of these days but I hardly see any of them. I see dozens of stangs every day, just no 5.0's |

On a track it will hold its on. On those tracks with some meaningful straights it is safe to assume that, with equally skilled drivers, it will be quicker than the 370Z thanks to it's power advantage and it's good amount of lateral grip. As we've seen with the ZL1 a good suspension will do wonders for the car.

+1.... I would take a Mustang over a Camaro any day of the week. The new Camaro's are clean looking, but too many Camaro's & Mustangs on the damn road. You can have a base line Camamro, or the SS & they look exactly the same. The Camaro ZL1 is only different by a little bit on the outside (the hood) & interior is different too. The same goes for the Mustang b/c they all look the same as well. The only thing that is different is if you go with the fully loaded Boss 302 for 50k or the GT500. Mustang FTW.
