GM has taken a step to battle Ford's much-loved Boss 302 Mustang with the new 2013 Camaro 1LE. Slotted below the ZL1, but above the standard SS, the 1LE includes an upgraded suspension with new dampers, sway bars, a tower brace, and a wheel and tire setup based on the ZL1. Other changes include a new close ratio six-speed Tremec transmission, as well as unique interior and exterior treatments.
Pricing will come in below $40,000, and Chevy is looking to have the 1LE approved for competition in SCCA's touring class.

The Camaro 1LE combines the best elements of the SS and ZL1 to take road-racing performance to a whole new level,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “That the 1LE breaks the three-minute lap at VIR puts it in the upper echelon of performance cars. That it starts under $40,000 makes the Camaro 1LE one of the most affordable, most capable track-day cars offered by any manufacturer

Things are heating up ... good price for the performance.

I heard Dodge was looking at revamping the Challenger platform since they realize that it needs to be a lot lighter/smaller to compete.

I read that as well, but I read they were considering dropping the challenger, and bring out a 'cuda of sorts

3 minute laps at VIR are not fast. I wonder if that was a typo?

The Dodge Viper SRT-10 didn't even break the 3 minute barrier. The 911 GT3 didn't either. The C6 Vette didn't. If this is true, it's phenominal.

That's VIR Full (original). They are talking about the big configuration, Grand East, I think. In which case 3 minutes is pretty fast!

Either one would be sick. I think they can at least do better than the challanger.. I drove one once and was not impressed although I do like the looks

OK, I've only done full and Patriot, wasn't aware there was a larger layout.

Grand East is what all that "Lightning Lap" stuff is run on. It's actually a real nice one.

speedfreek 03-28-2012 09:56 AM

Dodge needs to slim the Challenger down and bring the Cuda back so they can enter them into the Trans Am series. And you can get some new body panels for the Camaro to enter in the Firebird as well. If I had a Camaro I would convert it to a 2011 Pontiac Banshee all black with the Gold Chicken on the hood. Yep Smokey and the Bandit syle! :excited:
