I used to always think about getting a WRX wagon for a practical car. But now I think when I get a practical "car" it's going to be a truck, since I want towing capability.

Where in NY you live? I know in the 5 boroughs its mostly jdm and german as DD's. Muscle cars in the city are usually bought used and restored on classic status. Most of the stangs and maro's you will see in the 5 boroughs will be v6 as well. Challengers are mad rare... STi's are popular in the NYC cuz you never use top end power. So the subie makes for a crap load of fun where most highways speed limit is 50 and most streets are 25 and 30mph. |

I always have tried to have a SUV for towing or just piling a bunch of crud into. I def dont get near enough use out of it in that aspect. About all the hauling my Exploder sees is hauling my trash to the end of the driveway Sunday night. I just wanna be able to all year long. Its too depressing taking my Z off the road in the winter and driving the Ford. Its like punishment and I didnt even do anything wrong.

Also I hope the new WRX is really a lot faster (not just in a straightline) all around because every heavily modded WRX I have seen have had their a$$'es kicked by lightly modded or stock STIs. (Mostly at autox as I usually only see STIs at the track). It's really quite sad given the hype they get. I like the STI and everything, but buying that car at sticker or even invoice seems pretty crazy to me. It starts at 34 or 35K if I recall correctly?!? (My friend did buy an 09 brand new in 2009 for 29K!!!). Last edited by cossie1600; 03-26-2012 at 06:26 PM. |

I have a stage 2 2011 sti and I have had Zero issues with the engine nor have I heard of any real ringland issues occurring from cars that were properly driven or modded. most of these problems stem from people auto crossing sti's with bolt-ons and no tune.

One of my roomates back in Hawaii had an 04 STi (the other had a jacked up truck with the obnoxious exhaust, lol) and I had an 04 SE-R Spec V. We used to trade cars often so that we could throw the chicks for a loop when they thought they were following us around. Anyway, the STi was pretty good straight out of the box. His previous car was an 02 (I think, not sure of the year) WRX but he found the twisty section of Farrington HWY that was gravel ridden and ended up at the bottom of the hill through the trees.
He did catback, intake, tune, FMIC, EBC, injectors and FP. It was considerably quicker afterwards. Never knew how much power he was putting down, but I could never keep up with those guys back then in a straight line anyway. I had some of the fastest times through the corners (in the Spec V), but got demolished on the straightaways, lol.........
