The 'ring is a different "track", and results vary from the 'ring to VIR of course. Not every car can be the fastest on every track. Last edited by ImportConvert; 03-02-2012 at 07:00 PM. |

i know who he is he did a good z06 vs gtr comparison last year..you think randy pobst would be faster in the ZL1 than the GTR in the lightning lap?
all i want to know is you can say with a straight face that you really believe a ZL1 camaro is faster than a 2012 GTR? or for that matter that the ZL1 is really close enough in performance that on some tracks it could really swap back and forth? ZR1 or Z07 Z06 with the cup tires...sure i give you that... but really the camaro...if you can good for you you would then also have to believe the ZL1(2:52.4) is within 2 secs of the ZR1 at VIR... (2:50.7) not trying to start some back and forth but lets just use some logic here Last edited by MC; 03-02-2012 at 08:34 PM. |

Based on the reviews / results I've seen so far it appears the ZL1 will be every bit as quick and perhaps in some instances quicker than the GT-R. If the ZL1 needs good tires to do it so what. The GT-R cost about 2X as much and has all sorts of what many would consider "unfair" advantages (Driver error correcting AWD, Auto gearbox, etc)
Even at high altitude where the ZL1 could only manage a 1/4 mile of: 12.9@113mph (about the same time as the 426hp SS) it was still within striking distance of the 12' GT-R on a 2.2 mile course. Last edited by vo2max99; 03-02-2012 at 08:53 PM. |

WTF, I think the car runs on the pilot cup, which is basically a race tire like hte GT3 ones. Also 125mph up the esses, that's balling right there

FWIW ZL1 Production has been halted due to a "quality assessment."

while there is something to be said for that, that's just like saying that one drag strip time at one course is equivalent to another track's. you can't. temps, prep, humidity... all of these things come into play when you talk about drag times. the same goes for track days. if chevrolet really wanted to prove the ZL1 was faster, they should have had a GTR on site that day to compare to. i don't think that's what they were going for at all. i think they just wanted to post an impressive time. in that regard, they succeeded. that's a very impressive time. to draw any conclusions from this other than that is simply foolish.

I can't believe they were only able to drive the ZL1 to a 12.9 @ 113. That's way too slow for 580hp.

Yeah but it isn't heavy enough to limit itself to a 113 mph trap. I could see a 12.9 second ET spinning the hell out of the tires, but given the power it should be trapping well above 113.
