Yep, GM is great at playing catch-up.

Was that Camaro an auto or a manual? I couldnt tell. And that SOB went from 60 to 100 like it was nothin. Scary stuff.

I recently drove a 2012 GT500 and that is a bad boy. The exhaust note is fantastic. The 2013 with 650HP is gonna be awesome. I just hope they improve the suspension a bit to help with putting that power down.
The ZL1 makes drivers look better than they are?

I think you mean the GT-R makes people look better than they are.

The ZL1's traction/ stability control gimmicks work well to help keep the driver stay on track to an extant but it's not nearly as robotic as the GT-R with all it's electronic / computer wizardry.

The reviews indicate that the ZL1 is a very involving fun to drive car. So it's nothing like playing Gran Turismo like the GT-R. In other words the driver aids work well put they aren't so intrusive that it makes driving feel like your playing a video game.

I have driven ZR1's, which have the same stuff as in this ZL1. The computer aids are seamless, and you don't know they are working when they are. It is VERY involving, and you can accomplish 99.99% of what the car can do without turning them off. Like our instructor told us "You turn the computer off, you won't go faster, you'll just crash faster".

never drove a GTR.

580bhp

tested 12.3@119 IIRC. I was dissapointed by that. They GT500 will have its way with it until the road bends.

It's a 6-speed standard being driven, and I thought it was dog slow until I realized I had traded my Z06 for a 370Z and must now agree that it's OMGZ FAST!

The interior in it still looks like an afterthought, but with better materials than the SS for sure.

That's because some of GM's designers/engineers are also legit world-class drivers. They test their own cars.

none, but it literally takes almost 10HP to squeeze that 1mph at the end of the straights if all things are equal.

I was also looking at a new Camaro until I realized that I'm so tall I literally couldn't fit in it. When I test drove it I hit a tiny bump in the road and hit my head. The whole time I had to slouch in the seat just to not hit my head on the roof. Then I went and test drove the z and loved it, and it drove so much better I had to take it.

I don't for see the ZL1 being quicker than the 2013' GT500 around any track considering the 444hp Boss 302 isn't even all that far behind. The 13' GT500 is going to have an extra 206hp (650hp) and even better handling.

i saw better numbers for the zL1 at a couple of places. 0-60 3.1 and 11.2 1/4. who knows. the camaro ss caught my eye before i got dead locked for the Z, but the crappy cheap interior plastics and carpel tunnel inducing steering wheels were an absolute deal breaker.

debated on even commenting but let me make sure i have all the facts here

you are comparing a GM factory test driver they used in the ZL1 in a official video from chevrolet vs the GTRs 2:53.2 time from car and driver lighting lap right? and claiming that a what .9 sec better time by said driver really means the ZL1 Camaro is faster around a track than the GTR? nothing against you but thats sort of ignorant.. the ZL1 looking at say the boss 302 for example time and how its stacked up against the ZL1 in other reviews im betting car and driver would have put in a 2:59 at best or something with the ZL1

so to say the GTR got beat by the ZL1 makes no sense..... lets put GMs driver vs suzuki-san in the GTR and see how that ends for camaro

the ZL1 did the ring in what 7:41 with their factory driver?

the title of the thread is misleading at best

However, it will still be on tires the same size as a 370Z.
