18000 enthusiasts annually :)

900,000/22= 40,909 average per year and the 900k number is from 2011.

Yeah but Nissan needs to try to make money off the car, so it has to appeal to a broad market.

With the EVO/STI, they are subsidized by the base models. The Miata has always been a cult seller. And it's cheap as heck... though some of the more recent ones aren't. S2000 was on the market at a good time, but if you follow the progression of it Honda made near yearly changes to make it appeal more to a broader market.

Speaking of the Miata... you can now get the thing with a hard top convertible... So even Mazda is doing things you otherwise wouldn't expect to make the car have more appeal to a broader market.

haha screw that, give me an Na Miata with the 1.8 engine!

.....But, I like the power & heated seats. I drive it year round, almost every day. I even like how the adjustment controls are on the right side. It's probably just me, but I to adjust it a lot. I like to sit more reclined if I'm driving on the highway. The purpose of power seats isn't the ability to recline all the way anyways. Its to make adjustments easier.

I'm a Z guy through and through, but you have to at least give props to Hyundai for pushing forward and making progressive improvements to the car. Unlike Nissan who has sat by idly for the last 4 years.

I don't think Nissan has been idle per say. I think they are playing it safe considering the Z isn't selling as they originally projected. Look at the design cycle for the Corvette. I would hardly call the face transplant progress either.

Hyundai just has a lot to prove and taking huge risk to put a higher quality in the eyes of the public. It could be their downfall though. Their strongest draw was price. The 2013 Gen Coupe is a wooping $2,000 or more, pretty much across the board than the current model. Yes there's a performance increase, but you will be paying for it.

The GenCoupe is a fun alternative to think about when cross shopping this segment. I even liked the first generation one. It's a good move for Hyundai.

That said, I bought the Nissan over it for a few reasons, one of which was feel and handling, another was perceived build quality, and a few other subjective things like looks.

Even if a few numbers look prettier on paper, this is why we test drive and compare. I think the Z is nicer, but John Q Consumer doesn't have to agree. :)

I've read that the 13 genesis does 13.6 in the 1/4 mile. Supposedly the software cuts power between shifts. If I was going to spend $30k + I would get a z.

I remember when the C6 first came out, Tq management KILLED IT. IT was running high 12's/low 13's in all the magazine tests and junk. Then they re-tuned it and it ran low/mid 12's. Expect a correction for this possibly.

Of everything you posted OP, I would say this is the most feasible

Anyway. I'm a Z fanatic and only want the Z to succeed and keep succeding at being the best without there being a comparison to a hyundai... I already own my Z and on my second Z and owned 2 G's 3 altima's. A 240sx fastack and will probably own a few more nissans. I'm just saying I want to the Z to be more competitive... they can always make an NA 3.4/tr engine with 300hp on the same chassis for the ones that want it more pure...

Seriously man...your Z fanatic? The Genesis Coupe :roflpuke2:

All Z owners want more power...None of us needs power. The ones that do trade the Z in for a mustang/camaro/evo/subaru...go figure looks isn't a factor to some...

Even this version of the 370Z looks worlds better than the gen coupe. Some of your points are mute, and cynical. So crazy to even take serious.

If they was any car to compare to the current Z to me. It would be the BRZ/FRS the idea behind those cars is what the Z was. Now Nissan has stretched the Z to fit the American market (larger). Yet the Z car is true to the first Z car as any of them.

I sorry if my first post was blunt to this conversation, but C'mon son. Sh!t so ugly reminds me of

The 370Z however much I hate it, still looks like this

I did the Katie Perry 370Z please...also let's not pay too much to numbers that mags are posting!

Remember this

Drag Race - Genesis Coupe, 370Z, Mustang GT - YouTube

All subjective until it's on the street/strip. I think Nissan does need a little bump 20-30hp out of the engine. Therefore leading to more bolt-on hp. I've looked over many of the journals and it's insane the numbers some of these guys are putting down. Not everyone wants a car already done, with nothing to mod. The ones that do go get a GT-R

Shoots I don't know what I'm talking about...

sleepy and just got off a 12hr watch so hopefully you can follow my rant!

I just traded in my 2011 Genesis Coupe Track Edition for the 370z. The Genesis is a great car for the price but not in the same category as the 370z.

I did love all the features, power and warranty for the 29k I paid for it.

The genesis doesn't handle or perform like the Z and feels alittle bloated.

bigsix 02-25-2012 12:26 PM

It seems like Hyundai is challenging itself with this 2013 coupe: increasing power and performance while making a higher quality product.

Considering where the brand was 10 years ago, it's quite an achievement to have a car like this on the market.

I think car guys can respect the Genesis coupe for what it is.

Koreans have an odd sense of styling, though.

:iagree:

They pop up from nowhere to highest sales volume.

They are on the right direction in every category Except Styling.

I'm glad Hyundai is stepping up their game. Maybe it will motivate Nissan to do the same.

And since I'm a track junkie I have to say for the record the only Genesis coupe V6 I've seen at my local track could only muster 14.0 @ 102 mph (with a 2.2 60ft launch for those who care). And that's faster than any modified 2.0T I've seen at the track too.
