Hyundai Veloster Turbo gets official
Just a heads up for anyone who may be keeping an eye on what hyundai has to offer in terms of sport compacts they have officially announced the veloster turbo for MY2013 to be released in summer of 2012. pre-release specs put it at 201hp and 195 lb-ft tq. Makes me wonder if Nissan has anything planned for the sport compact sector seeing as it seems like every manufacturer has been upping their game for their compact cars lately. relaunch of the 240sx nameplate anybody?

I don't see it. Nissan isn't very big on competing. If they were? They would have never scrapped the SILVIA concept project from 2008. Right now, a nissan silvia with the jukes engine beefed up to about 250hp would be a cold remedy for FRS BRZ and any other FWD sport wannabes. But nissan scrapped that project and made the juke. Nissan also had a beefed up versa hatch chopped to a 3 door with suspension mods and turbo... that amounted to absolutely nothing. What did nissan come out with??? A leaf and a new goofier looking versa. And now, the cool but gas guzzling juke. The juke uses too much gas for it being so light. Gas mileage rivals our Z's with half the power.
Expect weak azz EV cars a new sentra, altima and altima hybrid, a Z refresh and that's it. |

that's to bad really....seems like that is where most of the industry is going lately as far as performance and economy models are concerned. Ford with it's upcoming Focus ST, Mazda with the speed3, Scion with the FR-S, even the Civic SI and now Hyundai with the Veloster Turbo. Seems like Nissan should be paying attention to what these guys are doing a little more closely.
