also own a Maxima. i have no interest in trading at all. but when i took the 307 in for an oil change i had a chance to check over the maxima with the 3.5 motor. the car was fully decked out and close up ain't bad. i guess i was just wondering does it lead in it's class best bang for your buck like the 370 does................... |

The Max is awesome. Sporty and super comfy. Jay (GMtraitor) went 13.93 stock with his, so they're pretty quick. I've had a chance to work on it a bit... very well built.
They are built in TN, btw.

It has a fake gear mode if you really want to "shift".

CVT and FWD would be negatives for me. But, I really like the styling and it seems you can get great deals on them right now.

We have a Maxima in the family and the CVT isn't bad. It does a good job of getting the best out of the motor. It is strange when you see revs dropping as speed increases, or when it stays at redline and speed keeps going up and up. I can report that they will do 110 mph just fine.
It has some sporty features too, like the pseudo brake ducts. |

My Mom is leasing a 2010:
+Lots of power +Responsive engine +sporty suspension/chassis +comfortable ride quality +high quality interior +supportive seats +attractive styling -front wheel drive -CVT doesn't have real gears -would have been perfect with 300 horsepower |

i have a 2011, and its awesome. it has sport mode shifting, which simulates gear change, and you can also manually shift by bumping the stick up and down. it won best value award in its class, so technically yes, its the best bang for the buck. i owned two maximas before, but this one blew my mind. heck of a lot of fun to drive. i got the base S model, which comes nicely equipped.

Recently rented one for a few days in Denver. With altitude I expected power to be down but wow that engine felt *weak*. The CVT is a good CVT, but that is not saying much if you are not into those things.
Annoyed me that Nissan still puts 4DSC on the rear windows. It is far from it. It felt heavier them my wife's G35X, the engine was more coarse, felt less powerful, and was not nearly as fun. The G35 is no slim chicken either. I was surprised to read that the Max has a lower weight then her G as it felt heavier. Perhaps the better equipped models have quicker steering and a more sporting suspension but I was under the impression there was not much different between models in the chassis and engine department: only trim levels. I was a huge fan of the 90's Maximas (back when you could even get a manual ). This one was tremendously disappointing. - b |

I know the lack of a true 6MT and RWD may push some folks away from the 7th gen Maxima (2009+), but honestly this car is a blast. Good power, smooth, quiet (well stock they are ) and pretty good handling for a 61/39 weight distro. I tagged along with the MAZOC guys at ZdayZ last year and most folks will admit they were shocked at how well I was keeping up on the Dragon. m4a1mustang has driven my car a few times and as much as he hates to admit it, he likes it except for the CVT as the only trans option
