best car under $80k?

Excluding domestic cars (my lady says no), which car do you think is the most well-around car? It doesn't have to be the fastest in the straight line.
I'm looking for the most enjoyable car with decent exterior+interior.

In my opinion,
Cayman R>Exige S>audi TTRS>e92 M3

Personally, I like
light weight
manual gearbox
mid-engine
AWD=RWD
NA=turbocharged>supercharged

p.s I wish I could buy Z06...

frost 01-30-2012 10:48 PM

Leave your lady and get a z06.

frost 01-30-2012 10:49 PM

Wait, back up. Send pictures of your lady, then I'll decide.

Skorch 01-30-2012 10:50 PM

Slightly used GTR?

864Zbeast 01-30-2012 10:53 PM

BMW M3 e92 is my dream car! I came out of a BMW 328i to the z because a M3 e92 was out of the price range.

I'm glad you caught yourself. That was a mod card violation waiting to happen.

ccdominic 01-31-2012 12:08 AM

Gtr. No contest.

shadoquad 01-31-2012 12:13 AM

Doesn't look like OP wants a GTR.

Personally, I'm tempted by them, but at that price point, I'd rather have a new car, not someone else's problem.

If frost reads this another time, then he is the King of Iceland.

If looks is all she has going for her, run like a mofo, otherwise it won't MATTER what car you get, she'll end up owning it, lol

wilsonp 01-31-2012 11:22 PM

If used is ok, Audi R8 or last model NSX.

If new, Cayman S - unless it's just a toy, I think the R gives up too much. Or Boxtser S.

Hard to beat mid-engine :D

Rooster89 01-31-2012 11:25 PM

I would say cayman s, bmw m3, or TT RS

Or an Equus! :ugh2:

vo2max99 02-03-2012 06:21 AM

Yeah without question the Porsche Cayman S/R; Boxster S/ Spider. These are easily amongst the best drivers cars in the World. 2nd choice would probably be a E92 M3.

Now if your just into #'s for whatever reason I suppose you might be able to find a used GT-R which is a great #'s car. There's also the Vette of course as well. Audi TT-RS is another good #'s car. Not may type of car but some seem to love em for the 0-60 times, etc.

As far as a daily driven car that had to be a manual (I vote GTR as well), I would choose an E92 M3. That motor is amazing, the styling is great, and the interior is plain gorgeous. You'll get the excitement of a well performing car with every single luxury available.

(I too bought a 370z because the pre-owned E90 M3 is still too damn expensive.)

This thread is crying out for a poll question.

azn370z 02-03-2012 05:11 PM

I really like the cayman but I think it's way overpriced. No one is going to notice the porsche or bmw, not that I'm saying you want the attention. I wanted the cayman r but decided that spending $50k more and having a car I won't get tired of in a few years is best for me, nsx or r8 it is.

Well considering the Cayman S starts at ~ 20K than a 911 and the only thing sacrificed really is a bit of straight line acceleration and tiny back seats. Otherwise the Cayman is fundamentally Porsches best set up car (mid-engine > full diaper).

Hell I would love a base 265hp Cayman but I'm not prepared to spend at least 51K on a new one. I don't think it's over priced or anything because if anything it's a bargain for what you get. Sure there are plenty of quicker cars but barely any which are as great to drive.

Snakes709 02-03-2012 10:51 PM

buy a evox. Only 40k, its awd and turbod...can make alot of power. Interior is cheap but meh.

ihatepotholes 02-04-2012 12:57 AM

You beat me to it. His and Her Z's can be a good thing. If we didn't get
snow 3 months of the year we likely would be thinking of a coupe to add to our roadster...then there's never any fighting over who drives the Z.

C63 AMG is too brutish, you'll end up paying $$$$ for tires and won't be able to get it through a nice canyon without sliding everywhere.

Mannysrt8 04-22-2012 12:32 AM

That's a decent point to consider however I believe Mercedes somewhat improved the C63 AMG's "brutish" behavior. Still it's not going to be a cheap car to own if you drive it like it was designed for as you stated.

The BMW M3 wouldn't exactly be the cheapest cars to maintain either. You also got to pay a "gas-gusslar" tax as well with its abysmal 14/20 mpg.

Still the cost of ownership for both the Mercedes C63 AMG and BMW M3 would pale in comparison compared to a GT-R's, especially if you drive it like it was designed for.

This is one of the reasons for why the Porsche Cayman would be my first choice. I don't need a daily driver that's any quicker than the Cayman S's 4.4 0-60 / 12.8@110mph quarter. It's beautifully balanced, extremely well built, very efficient and one of the all time best driver's car in the world.

I'd actually probably just get the ~ 51K 265hp (5.1 0-60 / 13.7@103 quarter) base model which is just as fun but roughly 10K less. God blessed me with a larger than life genitalia (slight exaggeration) so no need to try to compensate for an inadequacy.

I'd of course get the LSD/ sport chrono package, etc so the price would be closer to 60K. It's still going to be about 10K than the S with the same options. I may get one some 5 years down the road after I'm ready to try in my likely next car / BRZ. Then again, who the hell knows WTF is going to happen from now and 5 years....
