But it still pales in comparison to the GTR's $99,xxx base price. Big difference between 65k and 100k!

The real comparison will be the C7 ZR1 and GTR, which should be similarly priced.

last years ZR-1 was like 125k with one or two options after the 116K base price.

i really feel like the base vette will be about 55k and the z51 65-70k. in the end i can go get a new GTR for 90k and be miles ahead performance wise. but damn the new vette looks sexy which yet again is making me question things lol

Well you can't really keep one car's price at MSRP and assume you'll get a deal for the other. It would probably be easier to get a deal on a corvette than a GT-R (for the avg buyer at least). Comparing the GT-R to a base/Z51 C7 is like comparing the Z to a GT500, pointless. Can't really make comparisons with the GT-R and the C7 until the Z06/ZR1 versions come out. I think the Z06 will be priced at or below the cost of the GT-R and ZR1 probably a bit above. The GT-R isn't exactly miles ahead of the current Z06 w/Z07 package.

Don't get me wrong, I love the GT-R. I'm just being realistic with these comparisons.

daisuke149 01-28-2013 11:40 AM

overall, i dont think price should play into car comparisons so much. It should depend on the market / intent of the car.

You compare the GTR to a 911 turbo S and the ferrari's etc because thats the goal Nissan set out for.

The ZR1 is the competitor for the GTR, not the base corvette.

Its like comparing the bmw m3 to the v6 stang, when really the boss is the m3 competitor. Why would you do that?

yea i get what your saying and agree. my only thing is that i feel yea ooooo 55K for a base vette is awesome but i could NEVER just get a base model car when all the fun stuff is a option. GTR it's all there no options (besides floormats and red interior in 2014) me buying a vette i'd be super unhappy after a week with a base model or i'd spend $75K for a loaded out Z51.....and then wish i just took another $15K and got Godzilla. see my logic here? lol :ugh2:

Your assuming the inflated price for a z51 and finding a gtr discount 10k??

Also, its different for each person, but i don't want a gtr. I'd take the base corvette over a gtr even if the gtr was the same price.

i guess im just throwing you all off since my comparisons are my personal choices and not staying with in your per-ordained "classes"

but technically you saying GTR should be with the 911 and ferrari that actually is basing it a bit on price.

Well yes and no. Depends what you're doing the comparison for. If you're actually looking to buy the cars then price definitely should come into play. Just performance comparisons maybe not as much.

I don't think even a fully loaded Z51 would be $75k. That GT-R price you're talking about isn't exactly fully loaded either. The black edition GT-R costs like $10k more IIRC.

No, its not based on price at all. Its based on the performance benchmark that Nissan set out to beat.

I dont care about your personal preferences. State that you would rather have a GTR is fine. But when you say the GTR costs 15k more than a 75k base corvette is the ******** because the base corvette isnt 75k and a new GTR isnt 90k.

i can go get a 2013 GTR for about $82K right now if i had that laying around lol

also based on your statement there is you bias right there. you wouldnt show any love for the car based on personal opinion so no matter what its a one sided argument.

Rooster89 01-28-2013 11:47 AM

Not to mention cost to own on the GTR is astronomical compared to a vette.

That is the real kicker.

yes i know but i'm not a fan of the black edition. premium wheels look better to me lol but shhhh thats not the point ;)
