There is going to be so much good new stuff coming. Don't forget about the new 5.0 as well. Should be a good option if you don't want to spring for a Vette. The Camaro will probably be good too based off of the ATS platform. Hmm... I feel a tingling in my pantalones.:rofl2:

I hope ford finds inspiration for the new mustang interior here?

I dunno about that, but based on our little Focus I know it will be good.

Hey, you never know? That interior was 10 yearsago in the Ford GT. A decade is long enough to start "Sharing the wealth"? lol:tup:

vette and gtr. not sure if this has been posted yet.

Rooster, yes, it has... My thought/guess is that the reason we're seeing designs converge is as much about aero as it is about copying what sells. Nissan did it right in terms of aero and grip. The two side windows are an interesting decision as well... somewhere in the GM marketing materials they said that these were done to allow the air intake panels right next to (below) them, not sure why the two are connected... It's a break from recent corvette tradition but I like it

A lot of cars look the same these days. Also shares lines with the Ferrari California, 599, F12 or whatever the new one is, Aston Zagato, etc. Not a bad thing IMO. Still looks decidedly Corvette with more flair and some Euro influence.

Has anyone thought about how the new vette and viper will stack up? maybe there's not much comparison on the base model, but assuming there's a z06 equivalent down the road...

Agree... 599 reference makes the most sense to me... most have been up on the wall as they worked through this design

Man, the more I look at it, the more I like this car! Wish we could invest in Corvette stock (not GM)

Isn't that always how it works? If you look at most cars from any era, they tend to share a design language. And I think it tends to represent the era well.

So is it that the GTR has ushered in the new era design language? Has the GTR's philosophy of beauty through functionality taken a hold?

Make no mistake, I'm not trying to put down the c7. I think its a gorgeous car. Along with GTRs, Vipers, the new ferrari(can't remember the name either), etc.

I wonder how long this look will last? until the 2020s?

Honestly I don't think the Vette looks similar to the GTR that much at all. Yes it's kinda angular but so is a lambo. Yes the A pillar is black, but that's not a huge design cue. Every shape is different, the roof line, the fenders, the hood...

Thechidz 01-14-2013 07:14 PM

no wonder we like it so much

Also I believe the Camaro may be getting a LS7 option.

Why would they do that? They already have one with a de-tuned LS9. I could see them starting to use the new LT1, but the LS7 wouldn't really make sense. That motor is going away since the Z06 will be and thats the only car that makes use of their 7.0L

travisjb 01-14-2013 07:14 PM

^ it's closer to the 599 IMHO than the GTR ... here's an older comparo shot based on the jalopnik render... I had an old college prof who said that if you dropped aliens on our planet and had them compare ferrari and corvette they wouldn't see a difference... half the room gasped in horror, the rest were dumb-struck lol... this helps his point

Lots of people are saying the new Vette copied bits from the GTR. Aside from a likeness in the engine vent on the front fenders, I see nothing else that looks in any way like a GTR. I just don't see it. And if you were to look at each car sitting next to each other in a parking lot, the GTR would look like a Ford F150.

And just as an fyi, that engine vent has been a part of the design language of the Vette since the early 60s.
